Last night in Ohio, a Democrat running in a special election for Congress got within spitting distance of flipping a Trump +30 seat. And while we lost last night by a slim margin, it’s clear: Democrats continue to overperform expectations.

2022 was the best midterm election performance for a sitting president since FDR.

In 2023, Democrats overperformed partisan lean by an average of 11 points across dozens of special elections.

Last night’s special election in Ohio was the largest Democratic House special election overperformance since President Biden was sworn in.

Right now, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown is running an extremely competitive campaign for reelection in Ohio -- and Cook Political Report has this race listed as a “toss up.” With all eyes on Ohio, we have to ask:
