Passing this along to you - Friend,

The Community Solar bill, HB 197 needs one more push to bring it to a vote.

Help us PASS HB 197 in the House before legislators leave for summer recess on June 30!

Please pass the word to your State Representative that you support HB 197 which will lower overall energy costs and benefit all consumers.

What's the hold up?

This bill has been discussed, questioned, and vetted thoroughly. Since it was introduced June 6, 2023, this bill has had
  • seven hearings
  • 121 proponent witnesses
  • five opponent witnesses (American Electric Power testified twice)
  • one interested party witness

We have knocked on 14,768 doors, collected 701 handwritten letters to state representatives; supporters sent 356 emails, 1,533 people signed on as supporters of the bill; and 46 people left a voicemail messages for their legislator.

House Bill 197 has brought together a coalition of interest groups including solar developers, ratepayer advocates, climate activists and labor unions: Solar United Neighbors (SUN), Action for a Climate Emergency (ACE), Citizens Utility Board of Ohio (CUB), and Mom's Clean Air Force.

The legislators need to hear from their constituents that there is wide support for this pilot program.

What is community solar?

Community solar projects are smaller-scale facilities often paired with battery storage and intended to be located relatively close to the communities they serve. Renters, low-income residents and others who can’t afford or access home rooftop solar panels can “subscribe” to the clean energy produced by these facilities and receive bill credits for the environmental value and energy provided to the grid.

Community solar is a win-win: more clean energy available to a wider range of people. These projects can reduce the need for larger facilities and expensive long-distance transmission infrastructure.
