Fresh off successfully convicting Donald Trump on 34 felonies, Manhattan District Attorney Bragg is getting hauled before the House Judiciary Committee so that the Republicans can yell at him for being mean to the disgraced ex-president and be performatively indignant in their Fox News clips. Bragg should just take a page from Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan's book and simply ignore the subpoena, like the Ohio Republican has done with HIS own subpoena for more than 500 days — but of course, Alvin Bragg is a man of honor and integrity, and, ahem, a *real* lawyer.

Chiquita Banana found guilty of funding right-wing death squads in Colombia
The fruit behemoth was ordered to pay a paltry $38 million in fines (the company rakes in $3.1 BILLION a year in profit) for funneling more than $1.7 million to the United Self-Defences of Colombia (AUC), a brutal paramilitary death squad and drug-trafficking group, despite knowing full well the group was committing horrifying atrocities. According to the UN High Commission on Human Rights, the AUC is responsible for massacres, forced displacements, selective and systematic homicides, kidnappings, rape, disappearances, threats, intimidation, and lootings. Chiquita Brands International claims they paid out this money to the AUC in order to prevent the disruption of their fruit exploitation operations but have been accused of using their ships to transport weapons and even COCAINE for the paramilitary group. Of course, since this is an American-based multinational corporation, no one responsible will ever spend a second in prison or suffer any consequence greater than a drop-in-the-bucket fine for literally funding a death squad.

House Democrats launch task force to counter Trump's Project 2025
Project 2025 is the most important — and dangerous — thing that is definitely not being talked about enough ahead of the 2024 elections. Project 2025 is the amalgamation of radical, right-wing plans that the deranged and bloodthirsty warlocks who staff the Heritage Foundation are drawing up for a potential second Trump term, and they are a grab bag of the far right's most insane demands. They basically want to abolish the majority of the federal government, gut most environmental regulations, give almost all power to the president, remove all LGBTQ+ protections, eliminate federal funding for all abortion-related care, abolish the separation of church and state, and criminalize pornography. Democratic Rep. Jared Huffman announced the formation of the counter task force on Tuesday, saying in a statement, "We need a coordinated strategy to save America and stop this coup before it's too late." He will be joined by other Democratic House members, including Ted Lieu, Jamie Raskin, and Pramila Jayapal. They have their work cut out for them, because if these right-wing ghouls seize full control of the federal government we will not be able to recognize our nation by 2028.

Hunter Biden found guilty on federal gun charges
Donald Trump has spent the past several years bitterly complaining that he is being unfairly targeted by a rigged justice system simply because of who he is. It is a deep irony then that it was actually President Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, who had charges brought against him as part of a political hit job by two rogue IRS agents, a Trump-appointed prosecutor, and their House GOP cronies and was eventually found guilty of crimes that DOJ special counsel David Weiss originally wanted to drop because the “average American would not be prosecuted for similar offenses.” Even hardline MAGA Republicans like Trey Gowdy and Sen. Lindsey fricking Graham agreed that it is highly unusual for these kinds of charges to be prosecuted. Pure and simple, this is the GOP weaponizing a man’s struggle with serious drug addiction in order to humiliate and unfairly besmirch his father for selfish political benefit. THAT’S what the GOP means by “FaMiLy VaLuEs!” The icing on the cake? Three jurors spoke to CNN after the trial and said that they felt they had "no choice" but to find him guilty and one of them said the trial felt like a "waste of taxpayer dollars." YEP.
GOP Senate hopeful accuses Trump of accepting cash for endorsements in pay-for-play scandal
A very annoyed Jeff Gunter, a Republican Senate candidate in Nevada who just lost his primary to the candidate Trump endorsed at the last minute, has publicly accused the disgraced ex-president of accepting a big check from "the swamp" in exchange for endorsing his opponent, Sam Brown. Gunter claims he has proof but has not yet produced any. One of Trump's advisors responded on Twitter, writing "Proof Point as to why @DrJeffGunter didn’t earn the endorsement of @realDonaldTrump you have a habit of making up crap. President Trump makes his own decisions and this is another example of him choosing wisely.” That being said, this does sound EXACTLY like something the cash-strapped convicted felon would do.

Book-ban book called "Ban This Book" banned by band of Florida book bandits
Turns out there's nothing too on-the-nose for Florida Republicans, who decided that children's book Ban This Book by Alan Gratz had too much bad-mind thoughtcrime to be read by impressionable young children. Ban This Book is a story about a girl who starts a secret library for banned books after some uptight fascist moron decided certain titles were "inappropriate," which is exactly what happened to Ban This Book when uptight fascist moron and woman with entirely too much time on her hands Jennifer Pippin complained to her local school board. The school board accused the book of “teaching rebellion of school-board authority” to kids, which is ironic considering those people definitely have very strong opinions about the role the government should play in other people's lives. Pippin is the local chair of — you guessed it — the Moms For Liberty hate group, which is spearheading the national ideological crusade against books that discuss Black history, LGBTQ existence, and now free thought and expression itself!
GOP Senate candidate defends campaign spending at strip club, says they were just getting food
Minnesota Republican Royce White offered up the political equivalent of "I only look at Playboy for the articles" when he claimed that his campaign expenses at a fricking STRIP CLUB were simply for "food." When pressed on the issue by his interviewer David Pakman, the former NBA player-turned Republican crank tried to disparage Pakman by saying he seemed "very unfamiliar with strip clubs" and then dragged race into the conversation, adding, "you white liberals have a lot of nerve."
"Unprecedented scale" of human rights violations against children in Gaza, West Bank, and Israel, UN report says
A new UN report has verified more cases of war crimes against children in the occupied territories and Israel than anywhere else in the world, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Myanmar, Somalia, Nigeria, and Sudan. The report found 8,009 grave violations against 4,360 children in Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank — more than twice the figures for the DRC, the next worst place for violence against children. Of the total number of child victims verified, 4,247 were Palestinian, 113 were Israeli. The vast majority of the war crime violations were committed by the US-backed Israeli military, which they found to have attacked “nearly all critical infrastructure, facilities and services, including shelter sites, United Nations installations, schools, hospitals, water and sanitation facilities, grain mills, and bakeries" over the course of the war. The UN warned that these numbers only represented a partial picture of the situation, given the lack of access that UN monitors have been given by the Israeli government. In response, embattled Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu baselessly accused the UN of supporting Hamas.
GOP House panel finds Wall Street "colluded" to curb emissions
Oh wow, would you look at that! The GOP has finally decided to tackle collusion on Wall Street! It's long past time Congress took action to deal with the way that corporate greed has been ruthlessly driving infla— wait, this can't be right. CURBING EMISSIONS? The Republican majority on the Judiciary Committee published a report on Tuesday accusing Wall Street firms of colluding with advocacy groups to force companies to shrink their greenhouse gas emissions, which is so ridiculous and stupid that it would be funny if it wasn't being paid for by our tax dollars. The GOP accused the Biden administration of failing to "meaningfully investigate the climate cartel's collusion, let alone bring enforcement actions against its apparent violations of longstanding US antitrust law." Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler dismissed the wild accusations out of hand, stating, "There is no theory of antitrust law that prevents private investors from working together to capture the risks associated with climate change." It's obvious at this point that expecting the GOP to know what the law is or maintain any kind of relationship with reality is far too much to ask, but really it is astonishing to see the kind of stupid bullshit that Republicans come up with to justify their regressive and destructive agenda.
