Remember this? ![]() It's from the 2004 Republican National Convention where delegates and attendees wore Purple Heart band-aids to mock Senator John Kerry's service in Vietnam. Remember this person? ![]() That’s Democratic Senator Max Cleland — a triple-amputee from wounds suffered on the battlefield in Vietnam. But that didn’t stop Republicans from attacking him in ads, asserting he was soft on terror after using pictures of Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein. Twenty years later, the attacks from Republicans on veterans haven't stopped — they've only intensified. Marjorie Taylor Greene said enlisting is like “throwing your life away.” Republicans are united in privatizing veterans health care and trying to stop active duty women from taking leave to go to a state that provides abortion access. And of course, their standard bearer - Donald Trump says we "have a woke military that can’t fight or win" and called fallen soldiers “suckers and losers.” There are many stakes in this election, but here is one: Will we have a president who, in Joe Biden's words, understands the "sacred obligation to equip those we send to war and take care of them and their families when they come home or if they don’t come home.” Or will we have a president who thinks those who served are suckers and losers? ![]() Please share.
