Hi John,

Mary Gay has been hard at work leading the fight to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and ensure families here in southeastern Pennsylvania and across the country have access to the resources they need to stay healthy and safe.

We know we say this a lot, but we’re so proud to be in this fight with Mary Gay. Here’s a recap of the incredibly important projects and legislation she’s been focusing on these past few weeks.

Mary Gay voted “Yes” on the CARES Act.
Last month, Mary Gay voted to pass the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act of 2020 -- which contains legislation the congresswoman wrote. Mary Gay’s bill, H.R. 5443, the Isaiah Baker and Margie Harris Austin Act, ensures Direct Support Professionals who provide care for people with disabilities can be with them at the hospital and get paid for their work.

The CARES Act will deliver critical resources to constituents, place an oversight on the big companies on the receiving end of grants and loans funded by taxpayer dollars, and make sure our healthcare workers on the frontlines of this fight have the personal protective equipment they need to do their jobs and save lives.

Mary Gay led the fight to make the Glen Mills school a Federal Medical Station.
This effort was made possible through teamwork at all levels in our state government -- federal, state, and local officials -- but Mary Gay led the way. Our region needed a Federal Emergency Station to ensure medical needs in southeast Pennsylvania are met.

This was a bicameral, bipartisan effort that will serve patients who cannot be discharged to a long-term care facility, those who are considered “non-critical”, and patients who are stable, but too ill to be discharged. And should a long-term care facility in the region be evacuated, the Federal Medical Station at Glen Mills can serve as a standing medical station.

Mary Gay helped Pennsylvania distilleries convert their facilities to make hand sanitizer.
Since the beginning of this public health crisis, much-needed medical supplies have been out of stock. If you’ve been to a store lately, you know items such as hand sanitizer are hard to find. Mary Gay with her colleagues in the House and state senators here in Pennsylvania got to work to meet this need.

They pushed to break the regulatory boundaries and red tape set by the Food and Drug Administration and the Department of the Treasury that prevented distillery owners from converting their companies into hand sanitizer production facilities.

Mary Gay is holding the president accountable.
After learning that medical workers were being told to reuse their single-use masks while treating several patients for days at a time, Mary Gay coordinated a federal effort to call on the president to invoke the Defense Production Act and its full power to get our frontline workers the resources and protective equipment they need to keep themselves safe.

She has signed her name to a letter calling on the president to activate a nationwide stay-at-home order to mitigate the outbreak and keep people safe.

Mary Gay hosted a virtual town hall for kids!
There’s no question that children and students are feeling the impacts of this pandemic. Schools in Pennsylvania have been closed for weeks, so Mary Gay told the team that she wanted to connect with her youngest constituents about the times we’re living in.

They asked her questions about how to ensure our homeless population is counted in the census and why there’s so much chewing gum on our streets. Mary Gay answered their questions and explained how she works for them.

We hope you’re as proud of Mary Gay as we are. In the coming weeks, our team and Mary Gay will keep you updated on what’s happening in the region and in Congress.

In the meantime, stay healthy and stay safe!
