 # [#] John - Happy Pride!

As we celebrate Pride Month this year, we take time to reflect on the accomplishments of the LGBTQ* community, and recommit to the ongoing fight for equality.

I’m proud that Connecticut has consistently led the way in protecting LGBTQ* rights. We were the second state in the nation to legalize same-sex marriage and, during my tenure as President of the Connecticut State Senate, we became the fourth state to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation.

The work of trailblazing activists and organizers here in Connecticut has paved the way for meaningful legislation at the national level. While in Congress, I have had the privilege of supporting the LGBTQ* community by co-sponsoring dozens of bills to protect transgender children in schools, prohibit federal funds for debunked conversion therapies, increase the penalties for hate crimes, and more.

But there is still more work to be done.

Currently, I am advocating for the passage of the Equality Act, legislation that aims to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity at the national level.

This bill was one of many that was not taken up by the Senate last Congress after passage in the House, due to the threat of a filibuster. But, I’m not giving up on it, and neither should you.
