Friend,
As we were emerging from the pandemic in 2022, Big Oil raked in billions of dollars, making more profits than ever before or since.(1)
That same year, Americans paid the steepest gas prices ever at the pump.(2)
Now a new investigation from the Federal Trade Commission shows this was no accident. It was a crime.(3)
The FTC just caught Big Oil CEO Scott Sheffield red-handed, colluding with other oil execs to fix prices and gouge consumers. That’s why Courage California has joined a coalition of organizations demanding the Department of Justice investigate Sheffield and hold him to account. Will you sign our petition?
As the former CEO of Pioneer Natural Resources, Sheffield publicly admitted in the wake of the pandemic that he wanted keep oil production and profits for his company high.
But, when Exxon sought permission to merge with Pioneer, the FTC found Sheffield was even more aggressive in private -- secretly attempting to collude with world oil CEOs to restrict output and fix prices.
It worked. This Sheffield-led conspiracy cost consumers roughly $200 billion in one year year, translating to thousands of dollars per American family. And that's not even counting the higher cost of consumer goods that either contain petroleum or have to be shipped with it.
Let’s be clear: Sheffield isn’t the only problem. Oil companies and other huge corporations have been gouging consumers for years just because they can.
But with such bald-faced evidence of Sheffield’s attempted (and seemingly successful) collusion, it’s critical that the Department of Justice investigate and hold him to account.
Will you join Courage California in calling on DOJ to investigate and prosecute Scott Sheffield for a conspiracy to gouge consumers and put other Big Oil CEOs on notice?
Yours in the fight against corporate abuse!
