Dear Neighbor,
As summer arrives, many parents are concerned about losing access to free or reduced price meals for their children, especially if you rely on school lunch or breakfast during the school year.
When Congress passed the government funding bills last year, Democrats made sure a provision was included to establish a permanent Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer for Children, or Summer EBT, to help bridge the gap for children on EBT during the summer. California joined the program this year, will send an additional $40 per month during June, July, and August, for a total of $120 per child.
If your child qualifies for school meals, Alternative Income Form, or receives Cal-Fresh, CalWORKS or Medi-Cal, you child is automatically enrolled in SUN Bucks.
Additionally, if your child is in Head Start, experiencing homelessness, is in foster care, or part of a migrant family, you are also eligible for SUN Bucks.
Money from SUN Bucks can be used at most grocery stores, farmer's markets, online groceries from sites like Amazon and Walmart, and other stores.
You can head to California's Department of Social Services Website to see if you're eligible or to sign up.
