Dear Friend of MCV,
Last Thursday's retirement party for MCV & MCA's Director of Government Affairs, Beth Ahearn, was simply amazing! A little rain didn't stand in the way of an outpouring of love and appreciation for Beth's long career protecting the environment and acting on climate with integrity, humor, and kindness.
Executive Director Maureen Drouin shared these words at the event:
"In her position, Beth has been a force for the protection of our environment, climate, and democracy . She oversaw many of the EPC’s biggest victories like restoring alewives on the St. Croix Rover, passing the innovative Extended Producer Responsibility for packaging law, funding the Land for Maine’s Future program, and advancing a suite of transformative climate change policies that reduces Maine’s carbon pollution and jumpstarts the state’s renewable energy economy.
Well my dear friend Beth, it’s been a pleasure sharing this journey with you . I am grateful for your friendship and partnership over these many years. You have persevered through tough times, you have led the way, and created lasting change. You have shown great kindness and built a foundation that makes it a little easier for the rest of us to keep on."
Advocating for environmental protections, pushing for the clean energy transition, and lifting up environmental justice is not easy. There are so many obstacles to overcome. There is always opposition. Yet, there is a community of people and organizations who stand strong together. Part of that community came together on Thursday to honor the career of one of our leaders, and recognize that we will continue this work far into the future.
You, also, are a part of our community. To date, more than $28,000 has been raised in honor of Beth that will be used to continue the critical work! If you haven't yet, please consider making an honorary gift, to either Maine Conservation Voters (MCV gifts are not tax-deductible as they may be used for political purposes) or Maine Conservation Alliance (MCA gifts are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law), by clicking the buttons below.
