On June 18 at 4:30pm ET, longtime DPA partners and organizers Deon Haywood and Laura McTighe will join me for a conversation on their new book Fire Dreams: Making Black Feminist Liberation in the South, which narrates their fight for harm reduction, reproductive justice, and racial justice in Louisiana and communities throughout the South. 

This discussion is timely, as the criminalization of drugs and attacks on bodily autonomy rage on. 

Just a few weeks ago, Louisiana reclassified mifepristone and misoprostol – two medications used during routine medical care, childbirth, and abortion – as controlled substances. Possessing these medications without a prescription is now punishable by up to five years in prison.
