New Politics

Team, Happy Pride Month!

As June unfolds we wanted to highlight some of our transformational LGBTQIA+ candidates this election cycle. Read all about them below:

🏳️‍🌈 Meet these LGBTQIA+ leaders 🏳️‍🌈

Giona Picheco.

Giona Picheco is a Navy Veteran running for state representative in Rhode Island’s 14th district. Giona managed combat systems on a submarine and returned home from her deployment to find a growing hostility in politics for trans people like herself. Inspired to make a change and deeply rooted in her community, Giona decided to run for office and we applaud her for taking this next step in her service.

Josey Garcia.

Representative Josey Garcia (TX-HD124) is a US Air Force Veteran, mother, and lifelong advocate for children and families with disabilities. As one of only nine lawmakers in the Texas House who are openly LGBTQIA+, Josey is on the front lines of the battle for updated, humane legislation that puts the safety and freedom of all families first.

New Politics supports outstanding military veterans and national service leaders, alumni of programs like AmeriCorps and the Peace Corps, to step up and serve our country again, this time through politics. We were proud to be behind the movement of veterans who ran for office for the first time in 2018, and we have big plans to grow into the future.
