As ocean temperatures reach near-record highs, they’re becoming more acidic, threatening corals, other marine life and millions of people who rely on healthy oceans for their food and livelihoods.

Warming oceans force fish to migrate to cooler waters, which disrupts wild fisheries and can lead to conflict and depletion of fish stocks in some areas, putting even more strain on ocean ecosystems and contributing to food insecurity.

EDF is advancing innovative solutions to combat climate change and overfishing, while also empowering fishers around the world to build a more resilient future for our oceans and coastal communities.

Do you want to take a deeper dive into EDF’s oceans work? You can start by:

  • Watching this three-minute video as EDF explains blue carbon. EDF is advancing science to understand the ocean carbon cycle and develop ways to protect the world’s oceans and coastal ecosystems that store carbon.
  • Checking out this three-minute-read article about EDF’s work supporting fishers around the world. EDF is working with communities and legislators to ensure a safe, sustainable industry.

Together, we're restoring our oceans, supporting coastal communities, promoting sustainable fisheries and empowering fishers to protect ocean ecosystems.
