Friend,

How confident are you that you can identify genuine content from campaigns
and candidates? The latest evolutions in artificial intelligence mean that
bad actors have the ability to believably alter photos and videos
featuring candidate or election information without even leaving signs
that they’ve manipulated the content. Bad actors have been using deceptive
social media posts to influence the election for years, and this is the
next way they can spread doubt and false messages.

[ [link removed] ]Luckily, there are bills in the Senate that will regulate this
technology and how it can be used to influence elections. Add your name to
our petition urging the Senate to pass these bills now! >>

Deceptive AI-generated content, like completely made-up speeches by
candidates built by technology taught to mimic their mannerisms and speech
patterns (called a “deepfake”), is the latest threat for spreading
misinformation and lies. Today, videos like that could be spread online
without requiring any additional information or labels warning that it was
artificially generated.

We can and should set rules for how AI technology is used, especially
around our elections.

We’ve endorsed a set of bills that will create needed guardrails for this
technology, before the election and we need the Senate to act quickly to
pass them. Here’s what’s in the bills:

* S. 2770, Protect Elections from Deceptive AI Act, prohibits the
distribution of political or issue advertisements that contain
materially deceptive deepfakes.

* S. 3875, AI Transparency in Elections Act of 2024, requires
disclaimers on election communications that are generated by AI within
120 days of the election.

* S. 3897, Preparing Election Administrators for AI Act, demands
election administrators develop guidelines on how to address the risks
of AI and disinformation.

[ [link removed] ]Will you add your name to our petition urging the Senate to prioritize
these bills this summer? >>

Without Congressional action, there is every reason to believe deepfakes
and deceptive AI may shape our elections this fall. We must act.

Thank you for your advocacy around this issue and all that you do.
