Earlier this month, Congress actually came together to get
some really important work done, including passing a
bipartisan budget deal eliminating the threat of a government
shutdown for the time being.

I hope that as we go into my final year in office, we can see
more of this -- people coming together to act on behalf of the
greater good, rather than allowing an entire legislative body to
come to a halt because of its most extreme members.

And the really good news is that because this agreement averts
the possibility of a shutdown for at least the first nine months of
next year, Congress and I have a pretty long runway to get some
important things done on behalf of the American people. Things
like promoting job growth and increasing wages. Making
meaningful reforms to our criminal justice system. Finding ways
to keep Americans safe at home and abroad. We have a lot of
important work still ahead of us, Samuel, and I want to make
sure that when my time in office is over, my successor has a
Congress who will work with them to build on all we've
accomplished so far:

I plan on doing everything I can with every minute of every day
that I have left as President to deliver on behalf of the American
people and supporters like you who have stood by me since day
one. That clock really starts ticking when we get back to work in
January, and if you're with me, I hope you'll be one of the 32
supporters we need to step up in your community by the end of the year.

So, Samuel, can I count on you to step up before Thursday
night's deadline?
