The United States has the highest rate of single parenthood in the world. 23% of U.S. children under the age of 18 – almost 1 in 4 – live with one parent and no other adults, more than three times the worldwide average (7%).
About 80% of single-parent homes are led by single moms.
Where are all the dads, and what are the impacts of absent fathers? In this week’s Truth About Sex video ([link removed] ) release, Live Action’s founder and president, Lila Rose, walks us through the causes of fatherlessness and its consequences.

Upon inspection, we can see that specific shifts have led to this rise in fatherlessness and all its collateral damage.
Lila explains how contraception and abortion enable men to abandon their responsibilities as protective men and fathers.
We often hear of abortion in terms of “women’s rights” or a “women’s issue” – when in reality, this language enables men to abandon women and women to have their children killed.
It’s sickening to realize that the abortion industry profits off of this isolation of women, knowing many women end up feeling abortion is their only option.
The contraceptive/abortion mentality leaves women isolated to face the challenges of life alone.
Prevalent themes in media entertainment in recent decades have depreciated the standard of virginity before marriage and portrayed husbands and fathers as weak and uninspiring.
The result is that nearly 3,000 abortions happen every day in America alone, and nearly 90% of abortions involve an uncommitted biological father.
Fatherlessness and abortion are in a vicious cycle. Fatherlessness leads to abortion, and abortion leads to fatherlessness.
The most dangerous place to be in America right now is the womb.
What is the solution?
We must take responsibility in our relationships, promote the beauty of marriage, and explain to those around us that society thrives when sex stays within committed marriages.
