Dear John,

In a time when free speech is under threat, it is worth considering the role that free speech plays in a free society. How should we think about freedom of speech within our institutions, including our college campuses? What are the responsibilities that go along with free speech? What civic virtues should free people cultivate as we exercise our First Amendment rights? And how do we make the most of free speech to promote constructive exchange, debate, dialogue, and practical problem-solving within our governing institutions?

Join us for a compelling conversation on Thursday, June 20, at 3:00 PM, featuring former Michigan governor and Russell Kirk Center ([link removed]) board member John Engler, alongside Jack Miller Center president Hans Zeiger. ([link removed]) Together, we'll delve into America’s rich tradition of free speech, strategies for defending our rights, and proactive solutions to address the current crisis.

During our conversation, we will also learn more about the Russell Kirk Center's new Richard D. McLellan Prizes for Advancing Free Speech and Expression ([link removed]) —two $12,500 summer fellowships for scholars studying the First Amendment and a $50,000 grand prize to recognize major contributions to its defense.
