Lib Dem launch
The Lib-Dems are first out of the
traps, having published their election manifesto yesterday. At the
heart of the 116 page document are the Party’s plans for funding the
NHS, supporting carers and ending raw sewage in Britain’s waterways.
In true Ed Davey style, the leader presented the manifesto dressed in
style in a blue dinosaur tie and then promptly celebrated with a ride
on Thorpe park’s ‘Rush’ ride. It’s safe to say no one is having as
much fun as Ed Davey this campaign.
More manifestos
Keep an eye out for more, as the
Conservatives launch their manifesto later today, the Greens tomorrow
and Labour on Thursday.
Ross resigns
Douglas Ross yesterday announced that he will be stepping
down as leader of the Scottish Conservative amid the growing internal
pressure of his multiple roles. He will also quit as an MSP at
Holyrood should he win the Aberdeenshire North and Moray East
constituency on 4 July.
Classroom conversions
Labour’s big offer of the day was a pledge to convert over 3,000
classrooms into nurseries to add 100,000 more nursery places - with
the £140m cost funded by raising VAT on private school fees.
Elsewhere, Labour confirmed they were dropping plans to reintroduce
the pension saving cap.
Visa Hike
Over in the blue camp, the Conservative Party claim their
pledge to recruit more police officers will be paid for by raising
“all visa fees” by 25% across the board…that’s on top of rises already
set to take place in October. This would be yet another hit to UK
universities already facing financial difficulties due to a decline in
overseas students.
