WILL Seeks SCOTUS Opinion in Monumental Parental Rights Matter WILL & America First Legal (AFL) filed a Petition for Writ of Certiorari with the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) in Parents Protecting Our Children v. Eau Claire Area School District. Our case challenges the Eau Claire school district’s policy to hide gender identity transitions at school from parents. Our petition asks the U.S. Supreme Court to take the case, and, to hold that when a school district adopts an explicit policy to usurp parental decision-making authority over a major health-related decision—and to conceal this from the parents—parents who are subject to the policy have standing to challenge it. WILL Deputy Counsel, Luke Berg, stated, “Thousands of school districts across our country have these policies. If parents cannot challenge them until after their children are harmed, they have no way to protect their kids other than pulling them from public school.” Press Release Attention Wisconsin Fishermen! DNR Rules Could Poise Massive Problem WILL CHALLENGES UNCONSTITUTIONAL DNR RULE Wisconsin’s regulation of firearms for fishing is among the most restrictive, because it not only regulates how one can harvest a fish, but it prohibits the possession or control of “any firearm” that “might be used for the purpose of fishing.” Because all firearms could potentially be used for fishing, this rule acts as a ban on all firearms. While many states simply assert that certain firearms cannot be used to fish, Wisconsin extends its ruling by prohibiting the possession of a firearm on or near the water altogether. Fines for violation could be as high as $544.50 when court costs are included. Learn More DPI Strikes Out With New Performance Standards. Last week, WILL strongly condemned the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) for changing the terminology regarding student performance as well as once again considering changing the cut points for proficiency on the state’s Forward Exam again. This represents a blatant effort to conceal lackluster academic performance for Wisconsin students. The Changes from DPI: DPI announced they would be changing the terminology of student performance categories to as follows: “Below Basic” will now change to “Developing.” “Basic” will now change to “Approaching.” “Proficient” will now change to “Meeting.” “Advanced” will remain the same. WILL believes these changes will cloud parent’s ability to best understand their child’s academic performance and allow schools to avoid accountability for their failures.
