U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross has announced that the Departments Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $2 million grant to the Maine Technology Institute in Brunswick. The grant will help develop a strategic roadmap to strengthen Maines marine living resources economy and improve resiliency against future natural disasters. The EDA grant will be matched with more than $522,000 in local investment. With this investment, the Maine Technology Institute will implement strategies to strengthen the states critical marine living resources economy by identifying new market opportunities and transportation mechanisms and by providing a stronger, more efficient workforce, said Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross in a news release.



*U.S. Dept. of Commerce awards $1.1M grant to University of Puerto Rico [ [link removed] ]*

The U.S. Department of Commerces Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $1.1 million grant to the University of Puerto Rico to hire three Disaster Recovery Coordinators to execute disaster recovery efforts throughout the entire Commonwealth. The project, to be located in a Tax Cuts and Jobs Act designated Opportunity Zone, will be matched with $266,400 in local investment, said U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. The disaster recovery coordinators hired at the University of Puerto Rico will serve as liaisons between local, state, and federal partners to further advance recovery efforts and rebuild the local economy back stronger than ever before, said Ross.



*NIST Invites Comment on Guidance for Who Gets to Access What in the Cloud [ [link removed] ]*

Stakeholders have until May 15 to provide feedback to the National Institute of Standards and Technology on draft guidance for controlling how various users should be allowed to navigate within cloud computing environments. Security is cited as a clear benefit in the federal governments policy for improving efficiency by driving agencies to use cloud providers for software-, platform- and infrastructure as a service to the furthest extent practicable.



*Department of Commerce Extends Comment Period for Huawei TGL [ [link removed] ]*

In response to requests by members of the industry, the Department of Commerce extended the period of time allowed for comment publics on Huaweis Temporary General License extension. According to a statement from the Department, The Bureau of Industry and Security is seeking input on the continuing need for, and scope of, possible future extensions of the Temporary General License (TGL) for Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. and its non-U.S. affiliates on the Entity List.
