John — I want you to imagine a celebrity and product pitchman turned Republican politician.

His life has been plagued by personal scandals and lawsuits, and business associations have been subjected to legal scrutiny for lying to inflate the value of their products.

He’s super shady about his personal wealth and doesn’t pay the taxes he owes.

If the person you are imagining is a certain hue of orange with cartoonishly coiffed blond hair, you’d be imagining Donald Trump. And you’d be right.

But if the person you imagined was also a former professional baseball player whose “Mr. Clean” moniker was exposed as let’s just say…way off the mark…by numerous publications.

Many of his own family openly urging voters not to support him.

And accruing multimillion-dollar tax liens against his properties.

In that case, you would be thinking of Steve Garvey. And John, guess what?

You would also be right!

Trump’s world-historic narcissism and total lack of personal accountability have remade the MAGA Republican Party in his image and opened the door for celebrity politicians like Garvey.

This is not what the United States of America is supposed to be about. You deserve leaders who try to live our values, not flout them.

If we can defeat Steve Garvey, it means that we can defeat Trump and his other MAGA candidates — here in California where we can also flip the House, and in battleground states for the Senate and presidency across the country. But we need to make a stand now. As we approach my final mid-month deadline of this FEC quarter, will you do your part and pitch in $3?
