Dear John,

This past week included notable remembrance days for our nation, and world, to reflect on the importance of freedom. The anniversary of D-Day is a time to reflect on what America and our allied partners did to defeat Nazi Germany, while the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre is a time to consider the ongoing struggle for freedom in Communist China and around the world.

Read more of my thoughts on these and other topics below, and make sure to follow my FacebookInstagram, and X to get these updates in real-time.

Remembering D-Day

Image

Last week we celebrated the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the day in which over 150,000 allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy, France and set the stage for the defeat of Nazi Germany and the end of World War II. May we always remember the bravery and heroism of our Armed Forces on this day, and the ultimate sacrifice they made to preserve our freedoms for generations to come.

Inflation Continues to Increase

Image

Inflation continues to hit the American people and Californians especially hard, with yet another monthly price increase in the latest report from the Department of Labor. The cost of living remains stubbornly high, in large part thanks to reckless spending policies from President Biden and Governor Newsom which have dramatically increased the price of food, housing, utilities and more. Californians uniquely suffer from the cost of living crisis, with the average household seeing a $1,267 average monthly increase in the cost of basic expenses thanks to inflation. I will continue to advocate for commonsense policies in Washington which rein in our spending and reduce the cost of living for my constituents.

President Biden's Immigration Executive Order

Image

President Biden announced a weak executive order this week that he claims will secure the border, but in reality fails to restore proven border security measures that he loosened upon entering office. The more effective solution would be H.R. 2, which passed the House with my support and would actually shut down our border while disallowing illegal border crossings. This executive action fails to fix the broken asylum program, fails to reinstate the successful ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy, and fails to enhance physical security on our southern border. Read my full statement on the political gimmick we saw from President Biden this week and the need to secure our southern border.

   Reflecting on Tiananmen Square

Image

35 years ago, the world saw Communist China's brutality with the massacre of pro-democracy demonstrators in Tiananmen Square. Upon reflection of these events on the anniversary this past week, it is striking how little has changed as the CCP continues to oppress their own citizens and limit human rights. I will always stand with Chinese dissidents, and advocates worldwide, in their fight for freedom and democracy.
