Standing up to Big Oil to protect all our futures

John, did you watch On Thin Ice: Putin v Greenpeace last night? It was a powerful display of our activists’ courage, as they peacefully protested oil drilling in the Arctic. You can catch the next gripping instalment this evening or watch all the episodes on BBC iPlayer.

I was so moved by the activists' resilience and bravery. These were thirty ordinary people fighting an extraordinary threat to the future of our planet – even at their own risk.

The show made one thing clear: fossil fuel giants will stop at nothing to continue profiting off their climate-wrecking actions. It was true then and it’s true now, 11 years on.

Right now Shell are suing us in a multimillion-dollar intimidation lawsuit, all because our brave activists peacefully occupied their oil platform. But if this documentary proves one thing, it’s that we will never back down. They tried to silence us then, and they failed. We won’t be silenced now.

At Greenpeace, we will always stand up to Big Oil bullies, but we need your support. Will you join Greenpeace and help fund our climate activism? Every pound makes a huge difference:

What those thirty ordinary people did, and what they stand for, is incredibly empowering. They endured months in jail, facing the prospect of years behind bars, but always remained absolutely committed to the cause. They knew they needed to take peaceful action to protect the whole planet.

When they finally walked out of prison it felt like they’d passed the baton to the rest of us to continue what they started. We cannot give up on their fight now.

They stood up to Big Oil then, just as we’re standing up to them now. Our fight against Shell is just the latest in a long history of us confronting Big Oil head-on, and we will never back down.

So John, can you can you donate today and help us continue to stand up to Big Oil? Join Greenpeace with a monthly gift today – it only takes 2 minutes!

No matter how much money or political power these Oil Giants have, we know we have people power on our side. With millions of people like you joining the movement for change, we can continue holding these climate destroyers to account.

Thanks for everything you do,
