Hi John,

Didn’t catch our latest webinar, “The Anti-Abortion Agenda: Fetal Personhood”? No worries! You can tune in now to learn about how anti-abortion leaders and groups exploit fetal personhood to further their white supremacist agenda. We know that fetal personhood is an unscientific and unpopular way the anti-abortion movement is weaponizing the law against pregnant people and we will not let it go unchecked.

Pregnancy and Abortion Should Not be Criminalized

Even before the fall of Roe, pregnancy criminalization was a huge problem that has only become more pressing. What a person can be legally punished for and the rights they are entitled to change as soon as they become pregnant. We know that protecting pregnant people involves a lot more than just protecting access to abortion, and we are determined to end pregnancy criminalization.

Self-Care

Self-care is an intentional practice that roots us in the present despite the oppression we may face. Regular self-care is essential for sustainable and effective activism.

Here are our self-care tips for June:

  1. Go outside! Hopefully the weather’s getting nice where you are— take advantage of it! Especially for us folks who work indoors most of the day, the sun has some seriously restorative powers. Take a quick stroll, enjoy your morning coffee or tea outside, or even lay out a picnic blanket and read a book. You’ll feel much better after (but don’t forget to wear your sunscreen)! – Annie, Senior Special Projects Coordinator
  2. Disconnect and encourage your colleagues to do the same! — I know, I know. Everyone talks about the importance of putting down our screens, and it’s much easier said than done. For me, scheduling time to disconnect from work has been the single best strategy for helping recover from and avoid future burnout. While not everyone has the ability to do this, if you can, I highly recommend turning off work-related notifications when you’re done working for the day or week. Let your colleagues know that you’re doing this, and respect their personal time by not expecting them to respond when they are off. This can help foster a sustainable work environment. – Victoria, Senior Local Strategies Manager
  3. Visit your local library! In the words of the most famous residents of Ellwood City: "Having fun isn't hard when you've got a library card!" Libraries are incredible public spaces that can act as a place to hang out in a quiet environment, help you learn a new skill, or meet new people by participating in a book club – all of which you can do without spending a single cent. Bonus tip: even if you can't make a visit to a nearby location, many library systems provide access to e-reading and streaming services like Libby, Kanopy, and Hoopla, allowing you to access to your library's abundance of resources all from the comfort of your home! – Jasmine, Media Research Manager

See you next month!
