Heritage DEI Legislation Tracker
“Diversity, equity, and inclusion” (DEI) is the contemporary application of the racist worldview known as critical race theory. DEI offices and employees advocate and apply racial preferences in public life, resulting in discriminatory activities that often violate state and federal civil rights laws. State policymakers are considering proposals that prohibit DEI’s racist activities in public postsecondary institutions in their states.

No Passing Grade for Fatally Flawed Brookings Report
Education Next, Jason Bedrick
A recent report by the Brookings Institution claims that Arizona families participating in the state’s K–12 education savings accounts policy are disproportionately wealthy. However, the report suffers from a fatal flaw that renders their analysis meaningless...

Texas and the Future of School Choice
Wall Street Journal, Jason Bedrick
After decades of disappointment in Texas, the school-choice movement appears on the cusp of victory. The results of the Texas Republican primary are a vindication of a strategy pursued by conservative education reformers to leverage the culture war to advance school choice...

Illusion vs. Reality
WORLD, Jonathan Butcher
“Sex” is getting a makeover. President Joe Biden’s administration has approved a new federal rule that redefines sex to mean “sexual orientation and gender identity,” divorcing biology from American law. The rule endangers women and girls, and shatters civil rights—but it also gives Christians a chance to apply crucial ethical principles to public policy...

Arizona Schools Are Bearing the Cost of Biden's Border Crisis
Western Journal, Madison Marino and Matthew Kuckelman
Under the Biden administration, communities across the United States have been forced to bear the burden of unchecked illegal immigration. Perhaps nowhere is the weight of that burden heavier than in Arizona, especially Arizona’s schools...

Educational Freedom: The Overlooked Answer to Chronic Absenteeism
Washington Times, Erika Donalds
Schools across the country are struggling to get students to show up reliably. The best estimates suggest more than 1 in 4 American students are chronically absent. That’s double the rate in 2019, when absenteeism was already a serious problem...

K-12 Action Civics Trained Students Encamped on College Campuses. Here’s What Parents Need to Know
Daily Signal, Jonathan Butcher
Parents asking why their college student’s graduation is canceled this year need only remember when their child was in high school. K-12 schools have been training students to disrupt the systems around them for years through the teaching of “action civics,” which primes students to be activists even if it deprives them of understanding if, when, or why a demonstration would be necessary...

The Biden Administration Redefined ‘Sex’; What Does This Mean for Teachers?
Washington Times, Jonathan Butcher and Lindsey Burke
In a new regulation released last week, the Biden administration changed the definition of “sex” in a crucial civil rights law that was originally designed to protect women. Title IX of the Civil Rights Act says that schools cannot discriminate against individuals based on sex, which gave women better access to higher education and athletics...

The Anti-Americanism of Globalized Universities
Washington Examiner, Jay Greene and Tommy Huska
U.S. universities used to admit students from overseas so they could learn about American values and the virtues of our political system and bring that knowledge back to their home countries. It’s the other way around now...

It’s Time to Quash Campus Radicalism
Washington Times, Jason Bedrick
It’s clear from Monday’s “Day of Rage” that anti-Israel protesters don’t care about winning the hearts and minds of their fellow citizens. The sight of keffiyeh-clad crazies storming the barricades outside the Met Gala, burning an American flag, and vandalizing the 107th Infantry Memorial in New York’s Central Park will endear their cause to no one...

Daily Signal, Lindsey Burke and Connor Semelsberger
Congress can respond to the anti-Semitic riots on college campuses by ending some federal funding and investigating who is financing the dangerous unrest...

Biden Botched Financial Aid Roll Out and It's Parents and Students Who are Paying the Price
USA Today, Kevin Roberts and Lindsey Burke
In a normal year, May 1 is known as National College Decision Day, the deadline for students to commit to enrolling at a college, guided in part by their financial aid awards. But the Biden administration's disastrous rollout of a new financial aid application has left tens of thousands of families in the dark about their students’ future and prompted several universities to push back their enrollment deadlines...

How to Stop the Antisemitism Cascade
Daily Signal, Paul Larkin and Lindsey Burke
American college and university campuses have witnessed an explosion of anti-Semitic rhetoric and conduct that once had been thought to be unthinkable today...

Spoiled Children Have Seized the Colleges We Pay For
Fox News, Jay Greene
Starting at Columbia University and spreading across elite universities, pro-Hamas protesters have taken over their campuses, erecting tent cities and blocking the normal operations of their schools. Worse, they have targeted Jewish students with threats of violence, organized human chains to push "Zionists" out of public spaces and sent a Jewish student to the hospital after stabbing her in the eye with a Palestinian flag...

Why Don’t U.S. Medical Schools Produce More Doctors?
Heritage expert Jay Greene explains how U.S. medical schools have failed to keep up with the increased demand for medical services by not expanding the number of doctors they train. The result has been a large increase in foreign-trained doctors. Greene provides recommendations for expanding the number of domestically trained doctors.
