As a country, we are facing an unprecedented time as we fight Coronavirus. This is a new illness, so we all need to work together by staying at home, to protect the NHS and save lives.
As your local MP, I am here to help. My Hexham and Parliament offices are physically closed due to the outbreak, but I, and my small team of staff are working remotely.
I have launched my Coronavirus website (click below to visit), which contains information on the support available to individuals, businesses and the self-employed, as well as lots of other useful information.
Yours,
GUY OPPERMAN MP

Important updates to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme
|
|
Today, the Chancellor Rishi Sunak has announced that the cut off date for the Job Retention Scheme has been extended from 28th February to 19th March.
Under the scheme, all UK employers with PAYE can access support to pay 80% of their employees' salaries. This covers up to £2,500 per month for those who have been asked to stop working, but who are being kept on the payroll - otherwise described as furloughed workers.
This means thousands of people who changed jobs between the end of February and 19th March will now be eligible.

£750 million package to support UK charities
|
|
Last week, the government announced that charities across the UK will receive a £750 million package to support them in continuing their vital work during the coronavirus outbreak.
The £750 million will support frontline charities in the UK, including hospices and those supporting domestic abuse victims. £360 million of the funding will be directly allocated by government departments, while a further £370 million will go to smaller, local charities.
The Chancellor also announced that the Government will match donations made to the National Emergencies Trust as part of the BBC's Big Night In fundraiser to take place later this month.
