The upcoming presidential election could be the most pivotal in U.S. history. The two candidates are stark opposites who would take the country in vastly different directions.
Our future is in the balance and every vote will count. But will every vote be counted?
Many states have imposed vote-suppression tactics that now keep a large number of voters from casting a ballot. Barriers like restrictive ID laws, shorter voting times, gerrymandered districts and the closure of polling locations have been put up to inconvenience and intimidate voters, particularly poor people, minorities, and young and old voters.
That’s wrong. And those of us who care about democracy must take action when we can to protect voters’ rights.
We just did. In April, we made significant donations to Black Voters Matter and People for the American Way, which will use the grants in their fight to ensure all eligible voters have a say.
