Official Newsletter

It was a short week in DC this week, but a busy one! We want to update you on our recent votes in Congress and how they will impact South Carolina and the Lowcountry.

Staying connected with you is incredibly important to us. Make sure to spread the word to your friends and neighbors so they can stay informed about the work our team is doing. Our newsletter is the best way to receive regular updates on our accomplishments, votes, and meetings in Washington, D.C. and right here in the district.

The Administration’s Executive Order:

This week the administration finally decided to take action to secure the border; except they didn’t. With the order's timing being close to an upcoming presidential debate, it is simply a talking point rather than a comprehensive, long-term approach that will protect South Carolinians.

Already, amnesty has been silently granted to over 350,000 aliens since 2021. An extremely high 2,500 daily illegal crossing threshold before any action, is purely reactive and will not secure our border. It will not protect Americans. Our office has supported over 60 real bills that will stem the tide of crossings at the southern border through measures like border wall construction, ensuring border patrol pay during shutdowns, and cracking down on human and drug trafficking.

Our Townhall in Hilton Head Island:

Our office hosted a town hall meeting with constituents at the Old Oyster Factory Restaurant on Hilton Head Island.

There was a strong turnout from residents across the region. This event provided a valuable opportunity to hear directly from you about the issues that matter most in our district. Rest assured, our team will continue to put the Lowcountry First!

Our Votes This Week:

Amendments to H.R. 8580 – Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2025:

We voted in favor of several amendments that would benefit our veterans and enhance the operations of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). These amendments include ensuring equal access standards for mental health residential rehabilitation treatment programs, protecting veterans' Second Amendment rights, and allowing veterans to participate in state-approved medical marijuana programs. Additionally, we voted to prohibit the VA from misusing funds for excessive bonuses to senior executives and to encourage the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to streamline operations and combat fraud within the VA.

H.R. 8282 - Sanctions on the International Criminal Court:

We voted in favor of this bill, which would impose sanctions on individuals associated with the International Criminal Court (ICC) for investigating or prosecuting American citizens or citizens of allied countries, including Israel. This bill is crucial in preventing the ICC from overreaching its authority over non-member nations like the United States and Israel. Further, the ICC’s motion to convict the prime minister of Israel not only undermines Israel’s right to defend herself, but also empowers terrorist organizations and their proxies across the globe.

H.R. 8580 – Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2025:

Our office supported this comprehensive appropriations bill, which provides vital funding for military construction projects, veterans affairs programs, and related agencies. The bill ensures that our commitment to veterans is upheld by fully funding VA healthcare and benefits. It also includes important policy provisions to prohibit the promotion of Critical Race Theory, protect veterans' Second Amendment rights, and prevent taxpayer funds from being used for illegal abortions or medical care for illegal immigrants.

H. Res. 1215 – Recognizing the Contributions of the Jewish American Community:

We voted in favor of this resolution, which highlights the valuable contributions of the Jewish American community and calls for efforts to combat the disturbing rise of antisemitism in the United States. It is crucial that we stand in solidarity with the Jewish community and take steps to ensure their safety and security.

We remain committed to representing the best interests of the Lowcountry. Our votes prioritize supporting our military personnel and veterans, protecting national security, and upholding constitutional rights.
