Coverup? The Oversight Project’s effort to obtain the audio recordings of President Biden’s interview with Justice Department Special Counsel Robert Hur gained new urgency last week. The White House has claimed executive privilege to keep the recordings under wraps. 

• On May 31, the White House admitted that the transcripts of those interviews are incomplete.  
• On June 4 the Attorney General testified before Congress and doubled down on his refusal to produce the tape.  
• While most Democrats continue to attack Special Counsel Hur’s findings concerning President Biden’s memory and facilities, Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va.,chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, called it straight and broke with the party line on June 4 saying “[y]ou’ve got to release the audio.” 
• Then, last Tuesday, the Wall Street Journal published an insider report about President Biden’s serious mental decline. 

The Oversight Project has been leading the effort to release the tapes, along with CNN, the Associated Press, and others. House Republicans are also threatening to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt for refusing to make the recordings public. 

• President Biden’s refusal to turn over the recordings “indicates the tape is extraordinarily damaging,” the Oversight Project said in a post on X.

• “After months of lying to the American people by saying he’s ‘done all he can do’ to secure the border, he’s rolling out an unserious executive order to try to save his sinking poll numbers in the wake of the massively unpopular invasion he has orchestrated,” said Director of the Border Security and Immigration Center Lora Ries.

Faking: President Biden is back again with another scheme to “forgive” student loans. 

• The Higher Education Act gives the Secretary of Education limited power to waive certain student loan repayments.  
• But President Biden’s plan would “confound the law’s distinction between student loans and education grants at a cost of $475 billion over 10 years,” write Heritage legal fellows GianCarlo Canaparo and Jack Fitzhenry.
