[ [link removed] ]Democrats tread carefully with Trump
“People are fearful that they are going to
be retaliated against if they ask tough questions.”
That’s how one Democratic senator described the party’s reluctance to
challenge Donald Trump. It’s “a problem,” the senator said.
This is not just a problem—it’s a disaster.
The Democrats exercised responsibility by impeaching Trump last year. But
the Senate’s acquittal has plainly emboldened him.
When the President asserts “total authority,” or plays politics with
life-saving equipment, or fires anyone who tries to hold him accountable,
we can’t look the other way. Every senator should stand up and say no.
Cory Gardner will never defy Donald Trump. [ [link removed] ]We must replace Gardner with
a senator who will.
Let me be clear: I’ll do everything I can
to end this crisis and help our nation recover. I’ll work with any
Republican or Democrat to make that happen.
But we can’t let the President undermine democracy. Donald Trump may win a
second term—all the more reason we’ll need the Senate to check his power.
