Israel Carries Out Heroic Hostage Rescue in Gaza

Israel Hayom: The rescue operation of four Israeli hostages from the Gaza Strip on Saturday is an intelligence and operational achievement of the highest order, the complexity of which is hard to describe. The moments of jubilation and joy are understandable and justified. However, we must remember that we cannot rely on such operations and successes as the only or primary way to release the remaining 120 hostages, both living and deceased. The complexity of such a rescue operation includes dozens of intelligence and operational components. It’s enough for just one of them to not work perfectly for the entire operation to fail (Israel Hayom). Reporter Eylon Levy: The whole Jewish world is in floods of uncontrollable tears right now. Tears of happiness, tears of pent-up fears and anxieties and frustrated expectations letting loose. Four hostages. Rescued. Alive (X). Reporter Bonchie: Had Israel listened to Joe Biden, the four hostages wouldn’t have been rescued. The worst foreign policy mind in American history exposed again (X).

Israeli Hostages Were Found in Civilian Homes
Spencer Brown: Officials said the four hostages were rescued from two separate locations in Nuseirat in central Gaza. Not for nothing, the area is also home to a refugee camp, another instance of Hamas terrorists trying to hide behind and among civilians. In this case, not only was Hamas keeping hostages in a civilian area, but the hostages were being held in civilian homes and civilians knew the hostages were there (Townhall). Katie Pavlich: The Israeli hostages boldly rescued today were being held in civilian homes. This has been true since October 7. Civilians lined the streets, cheering when the hostages were taken into the Gaza Strip eight months ago. The same kind of civilians who cheered after 9/11 (X). Eitan Fischberger: Abdallah Al-Jamal, journalist for the 501c3 Palestine Chronicle, held three of the four Israelis hostage in his home in Gaza (X).

Israel Being Attacked for Rescuing Hostages
Wall Street Journal: The non-surprise is that professional anti-Israel voices, United Nations officials and the European Union foreign-policy chief rushed to attack Israel. Egypt condemned the operation “in the strongest terms.” How dare Israel rescue its own citizens. Didn’t it know there would be casualties? Haters of Israel will blame it and excuse Hamas every time, and the media are easily manipulated into playing along (Wall Street Journal). Marina Medvin: A reporter just asked why Israel didn’t forewarn the Palestinian captors that the IDF is going to be reaching the hostages. Yes, this happened (X).

Associated Press Realizes the Gaza Health Ministry Death Toll is a Lie
Associated Press: The proportion of Palestinian women and children being killed in the Israel-Hamas war appears to have declined sharply, an Associated Press analysis of Gaza Health Ministry data has found, a trend that both coincides with Israel’s changing battlefield tactics and contradicts the ministry’s own public statements. The trend is significant because the death rate for women and children is the best available proxy for civilian casualties in one of the 21st century’s most destructive conflicts. In October, when the war began, it was above 60%. For the month of April, it was below 40%. Yet the shift went unnoticed for months by the U.N. and much of the media, and the Hamas-linked Health Ministry has made no effort to set the record straight (Associated Press). Avi Mayer: Why does this matter? Because every accusation against Israel—from allegations of “disproportionate force” to the grave charge of “genocide”—is based on these Hamas numbers, which we now know to be, at best, completely unreliable and, at worst, wildly inflated (X). Seth Mandel: The Biggest Media Scandal of the Era Has Arrived. The AP’s rigorously detailed acknowledgement that the Hamas numbers have been way off for months is a watershed moment. The damage is done, but the truth is now undeniable even in the media ecosystem (X).

Pro-Hamas Demonstrators Protest Outside of White House
Townhall: Thousands of pro-Hamas supporters invaded DC and surrounded the White House today. These terrorist supporters set off smoke bombs, committed acts of wanton vandalism, and subjected the public to overall mayhem and chaos. Some of the signs were outrageous, including a “F*gs for Hamas” poster.  That really does say it all, doesn’t it, concerning the Left’s illogical and immoral attachment to radical Islamic terrorism? Others were much more violent, “We got the Guillotine you better run!” Another pro-Hamas activist is captured holding up a bloody mask of Joe Biden (Townhall). Stephen Miller: They are rioting over the rescue of 4 innocent Jewish hostages. Wild stuff (X). OSINTDefender: Can we just send everyone at this Demonstration to the Gaza Strip (X)?

Israel’s War Cabinet Minister Resigns Position
Wall Street Journal: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s top political rival quit the government on Sunday, in a move aimed at toppling his coalition. Benny Gantz, who leads the centrist National Unity party and was one of three war cabinet members, said he was leaving the government due to a lack of long-term strategy for the war in Gaza, among other reasons (Wall Street Journal). Fox News: In announcing his resignation Sunday, Gantz said the government needs to put the return of the hostages seized Oct. 7 by Hamas “above political survival” (Fox News).

European Parliament Shifts to the Right as Voters Voice Dissatisfaction
New York Post: Elections in 27 countries for the European Parliament ended on Sunday, with early projections giving far-right parties a strong showing, a result that, if confirmed, would amount to a powerful gauge of voter dissatisfaction and a stinging rebuke for the political mainstream. The balloting indicated that the prevailing winds had grown decidedly chill for Europe’s political establishment. The results are likely to make it harder for the European Parliament to form majorities to pass laws, and would render negotiations over divisive issues even tougher. More broadly, they underscored that the momentum of the far-right forces that have been expanding their challenge to centrists over the past decade had yet to crest (New York Post). Wall Street Journal: While the European Parliament’s main powers are to approve or amend EU rules, laws and trade deals, the twice-decade vote offers a potent indicator of Europe’s political mood. The legislature also gets to approve the EU’s new leadership team (Wall Street Journal).

Alejandro Mayorkas Questioned About Weak Border Policy
Daily Wire: Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas struggled during an interview over the weekend when pressed about the Biden administration’s repeated failures to secure the U.S.-Mexico border. Mayorkas was pressed hard over his failures during a Sunday interview with Martha Raddatz on ABC News while talking about Biden’s border crisis. Raddatz asked him about Biden’s executive order from last week that critics and experts have widely panned as “weak“, which also comes after Biden previously claimed that he couldn’t use executive orders to fix the problem (Daily Wire). GOP Communicator Steve Guest: ABC’s This Week: Biden’s executive order on the border has been in place for nearly a week. Has there been any impact whatsoever? DHS SEC MAYORKAS: Filibusters, ultimately it’s a no (X).

California’s New “Fast Act” Results in Mass Job Loss
New York Post: California fast food restaurants have slashed nearly 10,000 jobs because of the state’s new $20 minimum wage as struggling franchises cut labor costs and raise prices to survive, a major trade group said Thursday. The California Business and Industrial Alliance (CABIA) slammed  Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom for pushing through the law, which went into effect April 1 – and was blamed for forcing one beloved taco chain to shutter 48 locations in the state last week (New York Post). Collin Rugg: Who could have predicted this? Some restaurants are replacing the workers with digital kiosks to save on costs (X).

U.S. Supreme Court Has Issued Rulings From Trump to Guns and Abortion in Current Term
Wall Street Journal: The Supreme Court is entering the final weeks of a term that has included blockbuster cases about former President Donald Trump, hot-button social issues, questions of free speech and matters of importance to the business community. The justices have issued about half of the more than 60 rulings expected before they leave for summer break (Wall Street Journal).
