Dear John,

As you may have seen, heavy rainfall across the East and Horn of Africa has been hammering communities, causing widespread flooding, and forcing people to flee their homes. We need your help to support families who have lost everything. Join us and #HelpFloodRelief([link removed]) to make a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by the climate crisis.

The floods are disproportionately affecting people who have already had to flee their homes, such as Neziya, a Burundian whose house was destroyed by flood waters. She now lives with her daughter-in law in Bujumbura’s Kajaga neighbourhood which is also flooded.

“I have never seen flooding like this, the water has never been this high. This has been a bad year.”
HELP FLOOD RELIEF: [link removed]

Neziya is one of 90,000 people in Burundi who live in areas already affected or likely to be affected by the flooding. Families from Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania and Somalia have lost everything in the flooding. Heavy rainfall has washed away crops and killed livestock, putting people in further danger of hunger, infection, and disease.

We, at UNHCR, are on the ground across the region, working directly with governments and local authorities to move people to safer ground and set up emergency shelter. We have already distributed core relief items such as jerry cans, mosquito nets and blankets, but more help is urgently needed for flood relief.([link removed])

With heavy rain expected to continue, your support is more urgent than ever. Please donate today.([link removed])

Thank you for your continued support of refugees and displaced people.

With best regards,
