James — plain and simple, President Biden’s new executive order restricting the rights of asylum-seekers is an affront to human rights, the rule of law, and the immigration policies he stood for during his election. As Rashida put it, “President Biden promised to end cruel Trump-era immigration policies, not resume them.”
This is bad, unjust immigration policy that threatens lives and dehumanizes migrants. It gives the impression that Biden is intentionally making right-wing policy in hopes of winning some extra votes in November. It’s disgusting and misguided. This is no way to govern and no way to win re-election.
Add your name: Biden, don’t go MAGA on immigration. Our movement needs to stop Biden from destroying the right to seek asylum and putting lives at risk.
It’s bad policy AND bad politics. Polling, especially in battleground states, shows that moving to the right is not a winning strategy.
Just days before announcing this executive order, the President tweeted, “America is home to people whose ancestors have been here for thousands of years, folks who immigrated generations ago, and those who have just arrived. This Immigrant Heritage Month, we celebrate the courage of our nation’s immigrants, whose dreams are the foundation of America.” But now he’s shutting down the border to people seeking refuge from violence and other difficult conditions. This is Biden’s hypocrisy at its worst.
We know Biden needs the progressive coalition behind him in November. So we must come together now and loudly say this is unacceptable policy!
