Oof! Jack, did you see this poll? According to a recent poll by the Guardian, 56 percent of Americans believe that the country is in an economic recession—and they blame the Biden administration.

We need to set the record straight. Daily Kos is the country's largest progressive news and activism hub, but we need to grow and thrive to dismantle widespread disinformation. Can you support Daily Kos with a monthly donation of $5?

The majority of Americans have a pessimistic opinion about multiple economic indicators:
  1. 55% think the economy is shrinking, when in fact, the GDP has been steadily growing since Biden entered the White House.
  2. 49% believe the S&P 500 Index is down over the year, when, again in fact the S&P was up by 24% last year and 12% so far this year. Just two weeks ago the Dow Jones reached an all-time historic high topping 40,000
  3. 49% think that the unemployment rate is at 50-year high, when in fact, it is at a 50-year low (PDF) of under 4%
  4. A whopping 72% believe that inflation is increasing, when in fact, it's down to 3.4% far below its peak of 9.1% after the pandemic.
We are all feeling the pinch of corporate price gouging, but these misconceptions about our economy do not bode well for Democrats and the upcoming election.

It's the economy, stupid: Election after election comes down to how good voters are feeling about their pocketbooks. Another poll shows that 65% of Americans think the economy was better under Trump and that's just not the reality.

As a progressive news outlet, Daily Kos needs to work around the clock to set the record straight and tell the truth about the economy. As an advocacy organization, we need to recruit volunteers to connect and turnout millions of likely Democratic voters.

Unfortunately, we can't do this without the resources.

Like many other news organizations and other advocacy groups, Daily Kos has been struggling to stay afloat. We have seen two of our three revenue streams decline and have become more reliant on donations from our community to make ends meet. However, we are now starting to see our fundraising decline too.

That's why I am asking for your help: If you can, Jack, the most impactful thing you can do to help Daily Kos and the work we do every day, is to make a monthly donation of $5 or more.

If you can't commit to a monthly donation, a one-time donation of $5 will still have a huge impact. Please click here to donate.

Thank you for all you do,
Amanda McKay, Daily Kos
