The billionaires, Wall Street executives and equity firms that control the rents and housing for millions of people in every state in the U.S. think they can continue rigging the rules in their favor. They think that amid the pandemic and economic crisis, they can continue profiting from us, even as our income dries up, jobs are lost, and we struggle to cover the basics.
We say NO!
On May 1, pledge to tell Wall Street, billionaires, and big banks that we will NOT pay our rent unless they make a few, basic changes to put people over profits, including:
- Forgive unpaid rents and waive mortgage interest and defer mortgage payments for the months of April, May and June;
- Cease evictions of any renters and foreclosures on any homeowners during the full duration of the crisis — for at least six months;
- Use their political power to call on public officials to support housing relief for the tens of millions of American workers who have lost their jobs.
Together, we have the power to help working people in a time of crisis and tell big banks, Wall Street, and billionaires that they can’t use disaster capitalism to put us all further behind. It’s time to put people over profits for good.
Take the pledge today and add your name to the growing list of folks who are prepared to strike on May 1st!
