John,
The IRS’s new “Direct File” pilot program, which is allowing taxpayers to file taxes online for free, was a huge success this tax season. It saved 140,000 taxpayers from having to pay for-profit tax preparers some $5.6 million.
The IRS just announced that the program will be made available to all 50 states next year. In response, House Republicans want to cut $2 billion from the IRS budget and forbid the agency from expanding Direct File. That big budget cut will make it easier for rich and corporate tax evaders to go on cheating.
Fight back against Republican attacks on the IRS, which are meant to reward their wealthy and corporate donors at the expense of everyday taxpayers. Send a message to your senators and representative today demanding Congress increase, not cut, IRS funding.
Together, we’re fighting for a tax system that puts working people first.
Thank you for taking action today,

John,
When we fought for and won historic investments in the IRS, it quickly resulted in better customer service for everyday taxpayers and a crackdown on wealthy and corporate tax cheats.
It also allowed the IRS to run the first-ever free online tax filing system―Direct File―sponsored by our tax dollars, not one run by money-hungry corporations like TurboTax, which previously tricked taxpayers into using their paid software.
Now, just as the IRS has announced that it will be expanding Direct File to all 50 states next tax filing season, House Republicans are seeking to defund the IRS:
Instead of hobbling the IRS to protect wealthy and corporate tax cheats and force everyday taxpayers to rely on corporations like TurboTax and H&R Block to file our taxes online, we need Congress to continue to invest in the IRS.
Click here to send a message to your members of Congress to increase, not cut, funding for the IRS in forthcoming government funding bills.
House Republicans are seeking to pass a funding bill that would slash $2 billion from IRS enforcement―allowing their wealthy, tax-evading donors to keep on cheating. And the bill explicitly bars the IRS from expanding its Direct File program that this year saved 140,000 taxpayers $5.6 million, plus many hours filing their taxes.
A fully functioning IRS that better serves honest taxpayers while holding wealthy and corporate tax cheats accountable is popular with the American people. And, it helps ensure the federal government has the resources it needs to support working people by lowering costs on everything from healthcare to childcare to nutrition and more.
Write to your members of Congress now and demand they increase, not cut, IRS funding in the upcoming government funding bills.
Thank you for taking action today to defend the IRS from Republican attacks.
