Dear John:

This week, House Republicans passed the Fiscal Year 2025 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill. This bill fully funds veterans' health care programs, veterans' benefits, and VA programs. And it delivers on Conservative priorities, prohibiting the Biden Administration from using federal funds to promote or advance extreme critical race theory as well as the implementation of Biden's executive orders on diversity, equity, inclusion.

I also sent a letter to the House Appropriations Committee to ensure we would not allow taxpayer dollars to be used to fund abortion. In September 2022, the VA published an interim final rule that requires the VA to fund abortions in cases that include a broad health exception, allows abortion counseling, and authorizes payment for elective abortion. This Administration has been trying every angle to use taxpayer dollars to fund abortions, but House Republicans and I are fighting back. Federal law explicitly excludes abortion from being included in health services provided to women by the VA. In this year's reauthorization, we prohibit the funding for this illegal rule in favor of the longstanding federal law that prevents the inclusion of abortion and abortion consulting in VA medical benefits.
