Let’s advance climate policy.

Dear John,

Portland is considering a common-sense policy to track building pollution, and to provide prospective tenants with key information regarding energy use. But the gas industry is trying to kill it. Take action today to tell the City to pass this policy and take a first step transitioning Portland buildings off of polluting fossil fuels. The public comment period runs through mid-June.

Combined with existing reporting requirements for large commercial buildings, the policy will provide a comprehensive and useful set of data on the climate impacts of the City’s largest buildings. Collecting this data is the first step to creating a plan to rapidly and equitably reduce emissions associated with Portland’s buildings, and to transition these buildings to clean, renewable electricity.

The reporting requirements will give prospective tenants important information regarding energy use which will in turn help to protect vulnerable communities from high energy burden and incentivize landlords to install high efficiency appliances. The reporting requirements will also give prospective tenants critical disclosures about the health impacts of burning gas in homes, and allow renters to make informed decisions about their health when considering homes and apartments.

It’s time that Portland started moving on its climate goals! Please take action today.

In solidarity,

The Breach Team
