UPHOLDING OUR COMMITMENT TO VETERANS

One of my highest priorities in Congress is upholding the commitments we made to the men and women who have served in our military. The Fiscal Year 2025 Military Construction and Veteran Affairs Appropriations Bill that I voted to approve on the House floor this week delivers on that promise by fully funding veterans’ health care programs, and fully funds veterans’ benefits and VA programs. The bill also makes significant investments in the Indo-Pacific region that are necessary to strengthen our national security and our strategic partnerships with allies in the region. Increasing access to childcare for our servicemembers continues to be a critical need, which is why the bill includes a $75 million increase in funding to expand the capacity of child development centers on military installations.

REAL SOLUTIONS TO OUR BORDER CRISIS

Image

From day one, the Biden administration has taken actions that have effectively opened our border to the flood of illegal immigration and illicit drugs we have seen enter our country and our communities over the past three years. These executive actions announced this week fail to deal with the millions of individuals who have illegally entered our country or address disastrous policies, like catch-and-release. I believe a serious effort to secure the border would include an immediate reinstatement of the remain-in-Mexico policy, completing the construction of the border wall, and ending sanctuary policies that do nothing but protect illegal immigrants who have been convicted of violent crimes.

REDUCING THE THREAT OF WILDFIRES

As another wildfire season begins, we know all too well that year after year our region is struck with catastrophic wildfires that ravage our communities, leaving behind a terrible trail of destruction and loss. Congressman Darrell Issa and I made the case in this recent joint op-ed that we can reduce wildfire threats by increasing pay for federal firefighters, enhancing public-private partnerships and increasing access to wildfire suppression resources.
