John,
Today marks the first anniversary of the decision in Allen v. Milligan, when the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Alabama’s discriminatory congressional map as a violation of the Voting Rights Act.
It was a resounding win for communities of color who have been historically disenfranchised by unfair redistricting practices. Our affiliate proudly supported some of the Alabama voters fighting to ensure that their voices would be heard and rights protected.
But this victory was but one step on a long and relentless journey — one that continues to this very day.
Anti-democracy forces will always keep trying to reverse progress, so it’s critical that this movement work tirelessly to challenge discriminatory voting maps, protect the rights of marginalized communities, and achieve a more inclusive democracy for all. Even after the decision came down, All On The Line couldn’t stop organizing — because of course Alabama lawmakers tried to defy the ruling and avoid enacting a new map. But with the dedication of this team, voters won. And with a fairer map, Alabama’s new district saw a 134% increase in voter turnout earlier this year.
The fight for justice and fairness in redistricting demands our unwavering dedication, collective action, and ongoing support.
We need grassroots activists like you — who understand the significance of the fair maps movement and the impact it has on our democracy — to stay in this fight.
Every dollar we raise from emails like this one helps power our grassroots organizing work to amplify communities' voices, challenge unfair redistricting, and advocate for fair maps across the nation.
So please, make a donation today to keep our fight against gerrymandering going strong. → [link removed]
Together, we can fight back against all forces that seek to undermine democracy and our freedom.
