Our Revolution leaders joined with some of the country’s top progressive minds at The Sanders Institute Gathering last weekend — including Bernie and Jane Sanders, Bill McKibben, Ben Jealous, and many others — to talk about next steps in our fight to make our progressive policy priorities a reality.
Our Revolution Executive Director Joseph Geevarghese led a panel about Taking on Big Oil: Ending Fossil Fuel Subsidies with Rev. Lennox Yearwood Jr. of the Hip Hop Caucus, Jamie Minden of Zero Hour and Erich Picha of Friends of the Earth.
“Our democracy is on the line. But so too is the fate of our planet,” Our Revolution Executive Director Joseph Geevarghese told the panel. “Bernie recently introduced the End Polluter Welfare Act to close their tax loopholes and phase out the tax subsidies to Big Oil. We need a movement to get this over the finish line.”
Common Dreams reported on the panel and the next phase of the fight against the fossil fuel industry in its piece this week titled, ‘Time to Go for the Jugular': Climate Movement Has New Plan to Destroy Big Oil.
Americans are not only “dying because of the climate crisis” but also paying fossil fuel companies “to kill us,” Rev. Yearwood told the audience. “Their business plan literally means a death sentence for our communities.” Hear more from Rev. Yearwood on our Fight for the Future Town Hall on Monday!
John Nichols of The Nation discussed the Role of the Media in Effecting Change with David Sirota of The Lever and Jon Queally of Common Dreams. Stephanie Kelton, a senior economic adviser to Bernie in his 2020 campaign, introduced her new film: Finding the Money.
On the topic of Fighting for the Working Class, we heard from Sara Nelson - Int’l President of the Association of Flight Attendants CWA, AFL-CIO - and Saru Jayaraman, President of One Fair Wage.
“Starbucks baristas did us a huge favor by organizing when many people said it was not strategic,” Sara told the crowd. “Corporate elite tell us you should feel lucky to have a job. We're gonna make sure they know they should feel lucky to have our work!”
Wendell Potter, author and whistleblower, spoke on the HealthCare Crisis, and a host of other speakers dug into key progressive priorities ranging from the Housing Crisis to Social Security.

Right wing billionaires, corporate cronies, AIPAC, and MAGA donors are pouring millions into Democratic primaries trying to unseat some of our top progressive champions in Congress.
Our Revolution and the grassroots progressive movement are rallying to out-organize the Big Money. This means speaking directly to voters by phone banks, online outreach, and knocking doors.
In the upcoming primary contests, we refuse to let powerful voices like Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Cori Bush, Jamaal Bowman and others be silenced by the donor class. We will fight for democracy!

Our Revolution is once again endorsing Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for re-election to Congress in NY-14!
AOC continues to be a powerful voice for our progressive priorities from ending student debt to Medicare for All to the Green New Deal.
She has been an outspoken advocate for a Ceasefire and Peace in Gaza. With right wing and corporate money pouring into the race, it’s critical that our grassroots movement do everything we can to keep her in office!

Our Revolution is happy to stand with David Zuckerman in his run for re-election as Lt. Governor of Vermont!
David has been a lifelong ally of Bernie Sanders as well as an organic farmer, environmentalist, and champion for the working class.
We look forward to hearing from him on our LIVE Call Monday about his work to advance climate action and hold Big Oil to account in the Green Mountain State, where fossil fuel companies can no longer pollute with impunity! Read more about the new legislation to do just that in Rolling Stone.

Our Revolution is excited to endorse State Rep. Emilie Krasnow for re-election in Vermont, where she has been a powerful champion for climate, housing, healthcare and more.
Emilie recently helped pass an historic bill in Vermont requiring fossil fuel companies to pay for their own catastrophes. She believes we can meet the global challenge of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to zero with policy that focuses on equity and improves health, creates jobs, and saves people money.
Other priorities include universal healthcare, expanded public transit, and a house-first approach to ending homelessness. For the past decade, Emilie has worked with affordable housing groups and unions, and is co-chair of the Labor Caucus.

Our Revolution is proudly supporting the top labor candidate for Portland City Council — Jonathan Tasini, a 32-year member of United Auto Workers.
The entire council is being restructured and will have 12 new councilors - so this is a chance to think big and pass policy that can serve as an urban pro-labor model for the entire nation!
With the most union endorsements of any of the 70+ candidates across the four Portland districts, Jonathan is championing a pro-labor majority to defend workers’ rights.

Congrats to Janeese Lewis George who won her primary and is likely to win re-election in November to the DC City Council (Ward 4).
Our Revolution was proud to endorse Janeese because we know she is the progressive leader we need. Janeese is on a mission for community empowerment and social justice to shape a brighter, fairer future for all.
Growing up in a working-class family Janeese learned early on the importance of family, hard work, education, and public service. Inspired to fight inequities head on, she is an experienced attorney, civil servant, and community activist.
Since being elected to the DC Council in 2020, Janeese has served on committees for transportation and environment, labor and workforce, human services, and more.

Congratulations to Annette Ramirez on winning the primary runoff for Tax Assessor Collector in Harris County, Texas!
This important office is charged with improving election integrity in the nation’s 3rd most populous county. We need to keep a progressive in charge of voter registration rolls — not risk a Republican effort to “clean the voter rolls” and make it harder to vote.
Annette will prioritize collections against corporations and big businesses over homeowners and work for language justice and same day voter registration.

More than 100 progressives joined the Massachusetts Unconvention on Zoom call this week to plan out how best to shift the policy priorities of the Democratic Party and oust incumbents stymying progress for the status quo.
“If we want to begin to have what I would call transformational politics around housing, health care, jobs — it’s going to require taking on the Democrats that are ensuring the continuation of the status quo,” Rand Wilson, Our Rev Massachusetts leader and longtime labor organizer, told Politico Playbook.
