Last year, the Tories quietly raised the spending cap for elections. They nearly doubled the maximum amount of money that they can spend on a campaign to roughly £34 million.
It’s ridiculous. The Tories blatantly put their hand on the scale to bolster their chances of winning. 
This is yet another instance of the Tories putting their own interests first. They’re desperate - the previous election spending cap was £18 million and they’re the only party who ever came close to spending that amount.
It’s cynical. Rather than winning an election on merit, they thought they could change the rules to get themselves another five years. They are putting party before country.
