This week, I stood outside the office of a coward and a liar: Rep. John James of Michigan.

This is a man who spends all his time trying to pretend that he’s on the side of seniors on social media, while at the same time trying to wage a war on seniors in Washington DC.

And though I went to Michigan this week, Rep. James isn’t alone. He’s part and parcel of the Republican majority who want to rip our Social Security away from us. They want to reach their hands into our pockets and steal our benefits so that they can give tax breaks to billionaires.

I’m traveling the country this year making sure voters know what their representatives are doing while they’re in Washington DC. I travel light. You don’t believe me? Check his voting record. He voted to create a smoky back room designed to destroy Social Security and Medicare. He backed the Republican Study Committee budget, which decimates Social Security for the working class. It raises the retirement age to 69!

This is a plan to have people work until they die just so billionaires don’t have to pay the same rate on all of their income into Social Security like the rest of us do. And three-fourths of Republicans in the House have backed it!

The most important thing that you can do as a public official is to cast your vote. I don’t care what he says on social media, I want to know what he does in Washington DC. And I’ll tell you what he does: He works for the billionaire class, not the people of Michigan.

Across this country, I don’t care where I go. This is not a partisan issue. Everybody loves Social Security. Republicans, Independents, and Democrats, they all say: Keep your hands off Social Security.

In fact, they go further. They say let’s tax billionaires and expand Social Security for everybody.

But when these politicians like John James go to Washington DC, they ignore the will of the people in order to execute the will of the billionaires. This is what it’s all about in Washington DC: Politicians who will work for the people vs. politicians who will work for the billionaires.

I went to Michigan this week to lend my voice as strongly as possible to say to Rep. John James: get on the side of the people. Stop listening to the billionaire funders, stop coming after our Social Security, stop coming after our Medicare. WE earned our benefits, nobody gave them to us. We’ll be damned if we’re gonna have some politician reach their hand into our pocket and steal our earned benefits so that some billionaire can buy another golden yacht, or whatever they do with their money.
