Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Xochitl Torres Small joined more than 12,000 visitors on the National Mall for the 2024 edition of AEM’s Celebration of Agriculture on the National Mall.

The Deputy Secretary wrapped up her visit with a discussion with AEM’s Kip Eideberg about a range of topics, including what the Biden administration is doing to help promote the adoption of precision agriculture technologies, what must be done to give people more options to live, work, and raise the next generation in rural America, and more. ⭐ Military Appreciation Month: Throughout the month of May, I Make America highlighted veteran and active-duty service members working at equipment manufacturing companies, to show our gratitude for their dedication to our nation. Thank you to all who participated for your service, and thank you to all who interacted with our posts to show these veterans how much their service means to us all.

✅ Presidential primaries are underway!: 2024 presidential primary elections have started! And, I Make America has begun to send out information about registering to vote to voter's inboxes. If your state has a presidential primary election coming up, keep an eye on your inbox to get the relevant information on how you can get registered to vote and when and where your elections will be held.

🚜 Agriculture on the National mall: In the beginning of May, AEM hit the National Mall for a display of modern agriculture. Our teams worked to educate lawmakers on the benefits of precision agriculture🌾, and the role that equipment manufacturing plays in the future of modern farming, for the third year in a row!

State Legislation Update

Iowa:  By passing SF 2442, Iowa lawmakers voted to speed up the state's 2022 individual income tax cuts, instituting a 3.8% flat income tax rate beginning next year. 

The General Assembly also passed legislation to address the workforce challenges in Iowa.  Proposed by Governor Kim Reynolds, SF 2411 creates a Workforce Opportunity Fund of $30 million to support the state’s workforce programs.

Tennessee: This year, the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development launched the “Tennessee Youth Employment Program (YEP).” This program was created to give students the opportunity to launch their career in high school, trade school, or college. 

Like many other states, Tennessee saw the introduction of 'right to repair' legislation. Due to the complexity of this issue and the legislature’s concern that it would create conflict with federal regulations, this bill did not pass this session.
