Welcome to Hogan’s Highlights! Every week, we’ll give you an exclusive look at Gov. Larry Hogan’s journey on the campaign trail and round up the biggest stories impacting the state of the Senate race.


It was another great week on the campaign trail! Governor Hogan began June by celebrating Maryland communities and supporting hardworking Marylanders. He also marked two solemn anniversaries with a special commemoration: the 20th anniversary of President Ronald Reagan’s passing and the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

A DAY OF CELEBRATIONS
To begin June, Gov. Hogan spent the day on Saturday, June 1 with several Maryland communities.

First, Gov. Hogan kicked off the morning–and Pride Month–walking with residents and campaign volunteers in the Annapolis Pride Parade to celebrate and support Maryland’s LGBTQ+ community.

Next, he headed to Bowiefest, where the governor spent time with families and supported local businesses.


Gov. Hogan then closed out Saturday at the Annapolis Greek Festival, celebrating Greek culture, families, and food.

Gov. Hogan: “Maryland is a mosaic of diverse communities and cultures, and that’s one of many things that makes our great state so special. As governor, I was proud to represent all Marylanders, and that’s exactly the leader I’ll be in the United States Senate.”

ANOTHER BIG ENDORSEMENT
On Tuesday, June 4, Gov. Hogan received another major endorsement of his Senate campaign, this time from the Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association. The MEBA is the nation’s oldest maritime labor union representing officers of the U.S. Merchant Marines.


This is the SIXTH union endorsement Gov. Hogan has received since the primary election less than one month ago.

Gov. Hogan: “The maritime community and culture is a key facet of life here in Maryland and at the Port of Baltimore. The Merchant Marines play a critical role in our economy, our global competitiveness, and our national security.”

SUPPORTING HARDWORKING MARYLANDERS
On Wednesday, June 5th, Gov. Hogan met with members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 26 and Local 307, which represents over 12,000 union electricians across our region. He also toured their facility and spoke with apprentices in their training program.

Gov. Hogan: “I was proud to support workforce development for critical industries across our state as governor, and that's exactly what I will continue to do in the US Senate.”

In the afternoon, Gov. Hogan and the team visited JARC Baltimore, a business providing manufacturing job training and financial support services to help Maryland workers.


While there, Gov. Hogan had the opportunity to see firsthand the incredible work they are doing.

Gov. Hogan knows it’s common sense that success should be determined by skills and experience, not just a credential or a degree. That’s why it is his priority to expand pathways to the American Dream in the Senate–just like he did as Governor.

Gov. Hogan: “In 2022, we made Maryland the first state in the nation to eliminate unnecessary college degree requirements for jobs in state government. A number of states have followed our lead, but much more needs to be done to remove barriers for workers—particularly at the federal level. I will make it a priority every day in the Senate.”

SOLEMN ANNIVERSARIES
This week, Governor Hogan was invited by the Ronald Reagan Foundation and Institute to author an essay to mark the 20th anniversary of the passing of President Reagan and observe the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy.


See below for an excerpt from Governor Hogan’s contribution to this commemorative project:

“The power of Ronald Reagan was not just his extraordinary policy achievements that helped revitalize America at home and defeat the Soviet Union abroad. It was his power to tell stories that help define who we are as Americans and commit us to a greater cause. At a tumultuous time in American history following the Kennedy assassination, Vietnam War, Watergate, widespread civil unrest and rising global tensions, “Morning Again in America” meant more than a booming economy. It symbolized a new era of confidence and optimism in our country.

There may be no greater example of this than President Reagan's historic address at Normandy on the 40th anniversary of D-Day honoring the selfless and heroic actions of the “boys of Pointe du Hoc.”


The heroes President Reagan paid tribute to exemplified the values that make our nation exceptional: noble, courageous, committed to our allies and higher ideals.


These Americans believed that our country and democracy as “the most deeply honorable form of government ever devised by man” was “worth dying for.” President Reagan’s America “loved liberty” and “willing to fight tyranny.” While others hid for their lives, these Americans took the cliffs.


Today, in a fractured media environment and deeply polarized electorate, that idea of American heroism seems to be further and further from the popular imagination.


These truly American stories are a language that are not spoken nearly enough by leaders today, including in our party.

Despite these divisions, these stories still have the power to remind us that there is far more that unites us than that which divides us.”

Hi, it’s Governor Larry Hogan.


When I launched my campaign for the U.S. Senate, I did so with a deep resolve to maintain the leadership style and principles that guided me during my eight years as governor.


Fifty years ago, my father, Maryland Congressman Larry Hogan Sr. made a tough decision. He became the first Republican to come out for the impeachment of President Nixon. He put aside party politics and his own personal considerations and stepped up to do the right thing for Maryland and the nation.


Today, Washington is completely broken because that kind of leadership and willingness to put country over party has become far too rare. But it’s not in my nature to sit back and watch the dysfunction continue without doing what I can to roll up my sleeves and get to work.


I’m under no illusion this will be an easy road. But I’m no stranger to uphill battles, and I know I can’t do it without your support.


I don't aspire to be a United States senator. I don’t need a title and I don’t need a job, but I’m more concerned than ever about the direction of the country and I have become more convinced that I can make a difference by taking the approach and style of leadership I had during my eight years as governor to Washington.

It’s no surprise this mindset has made me a target of the Washington partisans. Despite early polls showing a lead, I know I’m the underdog in this race. And that’s why your support TODAY is so crucial.
