Yesah Tribunal - MVP and the Rights of Rivers

There's still time to stop the most dangerous pipeline project to date; the Mountain Valley Pipeline's owners are requesting immediate approval to begin sending up to 2B tons of natural gas (methane) per day from North Central West Virginia down almost the length of the state, over steep mountains and impossibly rugged terrain, through private farmland, pristine streams, and biologically sensitive endangered species habitats, across the border into Virginia for a total of over 313 miles. Watch It Takes Roots live from the Bonn Intersessional (SB 60)!Click here to watch and learn : [link removed]. Our expert EJ panelists will report back on global progress and setbacks on preventing the climate crisis and how UN measures relate to EJ communities at home.

City of Alameda puts a stop to the University of Washington’s Marine Cloud Brightening experiment

A letter from HOME! Alliance member Indigenous Environmental Network had a particularly significant impact on council members. It highlighted the project’s disregard for the climate justice fundamentals of inclusive and transparent decision making, and the clear failure of the project’s proponents to even attempt to respect the principles of Free, Prior and Informed Consent for Indigenous Peoples. Click here to learn what that impact was : [link removed].

Following up on geoengineering and false solutions:

Civil Society Calls for a Stop to Geoengineering our Oceans
*Technofixes are a dangerous distraction from real climate action*

Over 70 civil society organizations including NGOs, climate justice networks, social justice movements, and Indigenous Peoples groups from across the world have expressed deep concerns about the growing number of open air and water marine geoengineering experiments in defiance of international agreements, and called on governments to prevent them from taking place. In a statement released today they reiterated that these projects, often driven by carbon offsets, pose significant threats to marine ecosystems and communities. As global temperature records continue to be broken at unprecedented rate : [link removed], delegates are gathering again in Bonn, Germany, for the 60th sessions of the Subsidiary Bodies of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC SB60). Over this week and next headline talks will focus on, among other things, climate finance, lessons learned from the first Global Stocktake (GST) : [link removed], agriculture and fleshing out the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). AND NEXT WEEK...

Join us in the fight against DAPL this summer!
Stand with us in solidarity to advocate for the protection of the Standing Rock (SRST) and Cheyenne River Sioux Tribes (CRST).
Date: Tuesday, June 11thTime: 12 PM-1:00 PM Location: In front of the White House (Pennsylvania Avenue NW)Click here to learn more and to RSVP for the rally Stand with Standing Rock! : [link removed] continue to ignore the SRST and CRST’s Free, Prior, and Informed Consent : [link removed], but the Tribes’ vital contribution in the decision-making process is essential. Let’s amplify the Tribes’ choice and push for the immediate closure and capping of the pipeline at the crossing, revoking any permits issued. President Biden has the power to make this happen! This is a critical moment for mass mobilization on fossil fuels that could move Biden.

Clean water, fresh air, good jobs, and a thriving planet are things we all want for ourselves and future generations. Unfortunately, President Biden seems more interested in protecting fossil fuel profits than prioritizing the well-being of people. From approving risky oil drilling projects to expanding oil and gas operations, his actions speak louder than words. This is our year to pressure him to choose the People over Pipelines. It’s time to shut down the Dakota Access Pipeline.

That's it for a Friday evening but stay tuned for all the action and reports next week on our website : [link removed] and social media channels below.
