Dear Friends,
June is already off to a busy start. As we recognized the start of Gun Violence Awareness Month, my colleagues and I called for further action against our nation’s gun violence epidemic. Advocates from all generations, including my grandson Joseph, stood by us as we pushed for a safer future. In addition to the press conference, my grandson joined me for votes and he even got to meet President Joe Biden (picture below). I’m so glad he got to visit and see where his grandma works every day to build a better nation.
Upcoming Events
On June 22nd, my office will host our Kankakee Veteran Housing Expo. This event is designed to help veterans and other community members connect with vital housing resources.

Wear Orange Resolution
This week, I introduced the Wear Orange Resolution, which supports the designation of June 7, 2024, as “National Gun Violence Awareness Day”, and June 2024 as “National Gun Violence Awareness Month.” The resolution also urges citizens and community leaders to concentrate heightened attention on gun violence in June, when gun violence typically spikes at the start of the summer months, and to work together to make our communities safer. I am committed to passing commonsense solutions that address the root causes of this crisis and stop the cycle of violence in our communities.

House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force Calls on Congress to Act on Gun Violence
The House Gun Violence Task Force gathered in front of the United States Capitol to mark the start of Gun Violence Awareness Month and remember the more than 43,000 lives lost each year to gun violence. We must never forget that these are family members, loved ones, coworkers, and friends whose loss leaves a lasting impact on our communities.
IL-02 Congressional Youth Cabinet
The deadline is quickly approaching for rising high school juniors and seniors to join my 2024-2025 Congressional Youth Cabinet. This is an excellent opportunity for emerging leaders in IL-02 to learn more about government and public service. Applicants have until June 14th apply.
Students can apply here.
