Continue reading this week’s edition to learn more about a bill that passed the House this week providing full funding for the VA, new federal funding for head start programs in Clackamas County, and much more. | HOUSE PASSES LEGISLATION TO BOOST FUNDING FOR THE VA, SUPPORT MILITARY FAMILIES Our nation’s commitment to those who have served our country in the Armed Forces is a reflection of our eternal gratitude for their bravery and sacrifices. From securing funding that will help expand medical services at the Portland VA to passing legislation that will assist veterans experiencing homelessness, I’m committed to supporting Oregonians who have stepped up to serve. This week, the House passed a critical funding bill to continue carrying out our commitment to veterans. While this bill wasn’t perfect, it represents a starting point for government funding negotiations that will continue in the months ahead. The legislation increases funding for the VA – fully funding veterans’ health and medical care. It also boosts funding for child care facilities to support military families. Additionally, several of my priorities were adopted in the funding package, including long-term support for veterans with traumatic brain injuries and expanded funding for the Veterans Crisis Line, which offers life-saving mental health support. Their actions paved the way for a more peaceful world, and we are forever grateful for the sacrifices made by the Greatest Generation. | MEETING OREGONIANS Last week, I enjoyed visiting Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital to discuss health care challenges in rural areas and hospital worker safety. I recently cosponsored the Safety from Violence for Health Care Employees Act to help protect these essential workers from harassment and intimidation. | I also spoke with the Lebanon and Sweet Home chambers at the East Linn County Chamber Luncheon, where we discussed top concerns for our rural communities, the funding I've worked to secure for rural development projects across the 5th District, and much more! | Additionally, I had the opportunity to visit one of our local ironworkers’ ongoing construction projects at OHSU. They’re working hard to complete an expansion to the hospital, which will bolster health care services like cancer treatment and heart care. I’ll keep standing strongly with working families fighting for fair pay and safe working conditions! | This week, I enjoyed meeting Karsen, Executive Director of ABC House in Albany, & Gil, Executive Director of KIDS Center in Bend, who were in D.C. for the National Children's Alliance Leadership Conference. We discussed their important efforts to support children who have experienced abuse. | Oregon Senate Republican Leader Tim Knopp was also in town for the conference – I appreciate his years of dedication and service to Central Oregon! | FEDERAL FUNDS COMING TO OREGON TO SUPPORT HEAD START This week, the Department of Health and Human Services announced over $7 million in grant funding for head start programs in Clackamas County! These investments are critical for expanding access to early education, supporting families, and improving long-term outcomes for our children. Through bipartisan legislation like the Child Care Investment Act and the Expanding Child Care in Rural America Act, I’ll continue working to ensure Oregon families have access to affordable, quality child care programs. | ADDRESSING THE DEVASTATING FAILURE OF MEASURE 110 Over the past few years that Measure 110 has been law, 3,621 Oregonians lost their lives due to an unintentional drug overdose. While we can never fill the void this tragic loss of life has left in our communities, I’m committed to working to undo the damage Measure 110 caused by passing legislation like the FEND Off Fentanyl Act, which declared a national fentanyl emergency. | ONE MORE THING ⚾️ Congratulations to both the Oregon State Beavers and Oregon Ducks on advancing to super regionals – and good luck this weekend on your final stop to the College World Series!
