Yes, it IS ridiculous -- we can’t let November 2020 look like this!
Tell Gov. Cuomo and the legislature: Reform our outdated voting laws and make sure every New Yorker can cast a ballot → [[link removed]]

Dear John:
Last week in Wisconsin, Republican legislators and conservative judges cynically blocked efforts to postpone their spring elections. When advocates tried to expand mail-in voting to allow more folks to vote from home, they blocked that, too.
Their goal was to force hundreds of thousands of voters to choose between their right to vote and their personal safety in the midst of a pandemic. We saw the results: Long lines, closed polling places, and contradictory information from state leaders.
Here in New York, we can’t rest on our laurels. Wisconsin showed a preview of what could happen nationwide if we don’t act to make voting as accessible as possible -- whether there is a pandemic or not.
We’re calling on Governor Cuomo and New York legislators to support a number of changes to make sure voting is accessible to every eligible voter -- for both the June 23 primary and the General Election in November: [[link removed]]
• Governor Cuomo issued an order to allow anyone to request an absentee mail-in ballot for the June 23 primary. That’s a great step but to get an absentee ballot, the state still expects most people to request an application, print it (how many of you have a printer at home?), and mail it in. We're joining Assemblymember Yuh-Line Niou's call for the state to mail absentee ballot applications to every eligible voter.
• Not only is voting by mail one of the safest ways to vote during a pandemic -- it also allows those who often can’t vote in-person or wait for hours in line a chance to make their voices heard: Seniors, folks with disabilities, workers with multiple jobs, people without access to transportation, and more. We support State Sen. Alessandra Biaggi’s bill to expand access to absentee voting for the General Election in November.
• Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, and Utah allow voting by mail. Those states have higher turnout rates, no issues with long lines at the polls, and fewer opportunities for future politicians to add barriers to voting. Gov. Cuomo and the legislature should pursue no-excuse absentee voting -- so that pandemic or not, more people will have easier access to participation in our democracy.
New York can be a national leader on voting rights and help avoid a Wisconsin-like catastrophe. Add your name to urge Governor Cuomo and the legislature to expand absentee voting, both for the June 23 primary and the General Election in November → [[link removed]]
