The Week in Review

Happy Friday!

I hope you had a wonderful week. I am grateful to serve you all in the 118th Congress. Read below to see what I’ve been working on this week.

Drop Zone 2024 Recap

Last weekend, I held my fifth annual Drop Zone event. Drop Zone is the best one-stop resource fair for Arizona’s seniors and veterans. More than 70 organizations were in attendance, including Veterans Affinity, the Military Women’s Memorial, Youth for Troops, and many others.

Drop Zone is a special opportunity for us to come together to celebrate our veterans and seniors and to connect them with local resources and advocacy organizations that can help make their lives easier. One of the greatest privileges of serving in Congress is to assist those who gave so much in service to our country.

It can be difficult to navigate the red tape of the federal bureaucracy. My team and I hear from veterans and constituents every day who are struggling to deal with the VA, IRS, Social Security, and other agencies. The primary mission of my District Office is to help constituents through this process and obtain the services and benefits that are available to them.

Drop Zone would not have been possible without the help of our phenomenal volunteers and organizations. I am humbled by the generosity and selflessness of Arizonans, and I am honored to represent Arizona’s Fighting Fifth in Washington, D.C. Thank you to all who attended and participated in Drop Zone 2024!

Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of D-Day

80 years ago, Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy in the largest naval invasion in history.

We honor the heroic service members who sacrificed so much to defend our freedoms.

Their bravery and valor will never be forgotten.

Holding Illegitimate International Organizations Accountable

The House passed legislation to impose sanctions against the International Criminal Court (ICC) if it makes any effort to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute any protected person of the United States and its allies. This legislation sends a strong message to the ICC that the United States will not tolerate its actions against Israel.

When President Bill Clinton signed the Rome Statute—the treaty that established the ICC—he did not submit the treaty to be ratified by the Senate. As the Constitution requires approval from two-thirds of the Senate for international treaties to be confirmed, the United States is not a party to the Rome Statute. Therefore, the House of Representatives does not recognize the legitimacy nor jurisdiction of the ICC.

The ICC is not a legitimate multilateral institution. It has no authority to invade the sovereignty of Israel or any other nation unless a sovereign state has ceded its self-governance to the ICC. It is particularly pernicious that the ICC, without color of authority, would attempt to punish Israel and its leaders for exercising its right to defend itself from barbaric terrorists.

Neither the United States nor Israel are parties to the Rome Statute. As such, any attempt by the ICC to enforce their arrest warrant applications will not be recognized by the United States. Hamas wants nothing more than to eradicate the Jewish people, and the ICC should not sabotage Israel’s right to defend itself.

I am thankful to Congressman Chip Roy (R-TX) for his effort in leading this important legislation in the House and for including language from my resolution, H.Res. 1253, in his bill. Congress reaffirms the United States’ unwavering support for our ally Israel in its fight against terrorism.

The Daily Caller covered Rep. Roy’s legislation here.

Protecting New Homeowners

I introduced legislation that repeals the Biden Administration’s new, expensive, Green New Deal mandates on housing.

HUD and USDA have mandated that new homes be built in accordance with the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) has released studies showing that these mandates can add up to $31,000 to the price of a new home. They also estimate that it would take home buyers up to 90 years to see a financial return on that up front cost. This price increase, combined with the already high housing costs, will make it even harder for young families to purchase their first home. HUD and USDA are supposed to protect American homeowners and renters—not price them out of the housing market.

The Helping Owners with Unaffordable Shoddy Edicts Act of 2024, or the HOUSE Act, will help to protect Americans from the Biden Administration’s senseless nationwide Green New Deal mandates. If Biden’s regime decides to work against the American people, Congress must step in.

The text of my legislation can be found here.

House Committees Refer Hunter and James Biden for Criminal Prosecution

The House Judiciary, Oversight & Accountability, and Ways & Means Committees sent criminal referrals to the DOJ recommending Hunter and James Biden be charged with making false statements to Congress about key aspects of the impeachment inquiry of President Joe Biden. These false statements implicate Joe Biden’s knowledge of and role in his family’s influence peddling schemes and appear to be a calculated effort to shield Joe Biden from the impeachment inquiry.

Lie 1: During his deposition, Hunter Biden made false statements about holding a position at Rosemont Seneca Bohai (RSB). RSB received millions of dollars from foreign individuals and entities who met with then-Vice President Biden, then transferred those funds to Hunter Biden. After deposing Hunter Biden, the Committees obtained documents showing Hunter Biden represented that he was the corporate secretary of RSB.

Lie 2: During his testimony, Hunter Biden relayed an entirely fictitious account about threatening text messages he sent to his Chinese business partner that invoked his father’s presence with him as he wrote the messages.

Hunter Biden testified he had transmitted this threat to an unrelated individual with the same surname. However, documents released by the Committee on Ways and Means demonstrate conclusively that Hunter Biden made this threat to the intended individual, and bank records prove Hunter Biden’s Chinese business partners wired millions of dollars to his company after his threat. A portion of the proceeds has been traced to Joe Biden’s bank account.

Lie 3: During James Biden’s transcribed interview, he stated that Joe Biden did not meet with Tony Bobulinski, a business associate of James and Hunter Biden, in 2017 while pursuing a deal with a Chinese entity, CEFC China Energy. His statements were contradicted not only by Mr. Bobulinski, but by Hunter Biden. Mr. Bobulinski also produced text messages that establish the events leading up to and immediately following his meeting with Joe Biden on May 2, 2017.

With these lies exposed, as well as the very clear intention behind the lies to create the false impression that Joe Biden was not involved in his family’s business dealings, it is now clear, as House Republicans have argued since day one, that Joe Biden was very much a part of his family’s vast influence peddling schemes. This week’s criminal referrals are not the end of our efforts to hold the Bidens accountable; they are only the beginning. I’ll keep you posted.

The Committees’ full criminal referral may be read here.

House Judiciary Committee Activity

The Judiciary Committee held a hearing titled “Oversight of the U.S. Department of Justice.” United States Attorney General Merrick Garland has made a mockery of the Justice System. The weaponized DOJ prosecutes President Trump and his allies while refusing to hold the Biden Crime Family accountable.

AG Garland has not complied with a lawfully issued congressional subpoena to hand over the audio tape of Joe Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur to the House Judiciary and Oversight & Accountability Committees. The Department of Justice admitted that the transcript of the interview was altered, but Garland was nonresponsive when I inquired further into the issue. The audio tapes of the interview would provide insight into the President’s mental acuity and must be turned over to Congress. Click the image below to watch my remarks:

FAIR Executive Director Julie Kirchner Joins the What’s the Biggs Idea? Podcast

On this week’s episode of the What’s the Biggs Idea? Podcast, I was joined by the Federation for American Immigration Reform’s (FAIR) Executive Director Julie Kirchner. Americans are dealing with the consequences of Biden’s open border policies every single day, and we must be prepared for another 9/11 event. Biden’s newest executive order supposedly limiting asylum claims for illegal aliens is nothing more than a political stunt and a charade. After three and a half years of doing nothing to curb the invasion at the border, the executive order is filled with loopholes, and is too little, too late.

Previous episodes of the podcast can be found on my website. Click the image below to watch this week’s episode:
