Friends,

This week, we honored the brave men that landed at Normandy and saved our democracy and freedoms.

June 6 marked the 80th Anniversary of Operation Overlord, the largest seaborne invasion in history that began the liberation of France and the rest of Western Europe in World War II. Thousands of brave Americans died that day. Their sacrifice helped lead us to an Allied victory on the Western Front and ultimately the final demise of Nazi Germany.

Join me in thanking our "Greatest Generation," for their dedication and sacrifice to our nation.

Sincerely,

Recollections of D-Day by PVT Benjamin Alvarado

Image

This week, I had the honor of reading excerpts from Private Benjamin Alvarado's diary recounting his experience on Omaha Beach 80 years ago. Private Alvarado who passed away in 2015, survived WWII and left behind a powerful testament to the heroism and honor of the men who crossed an ocean to defeat tyranny and defend freedom. That moment would usher in 80 years of prosperity and relative peace previously unknown in human history. It happened because the Greatest Generation believed it was America's duty to lead.

D-Day 80th Anniversary Jump

Image

This week, I participated in a jump in Normandy to mark the 80th Anniversary of D-Day. We took off in replica planes from what they used 80 years ago. It was an honor to have the opportunity to make this jump in remembrance of the thousands who died that day, their sacrifice and dedication to our freedoms and democracy. Never forget the "Greatest Generation" and what they did for us. Freedom isn't free.

House Hearing on the Drug Pricing Program

This week I asked physicians, community health centers, and hospitals about how we ensure long term success and sustainability for the 340B drug pricing program – which was designed to give a discounted price to providers that treat underserved Texans.

The Coddling of the American Mind co-author Greg Lukianoff joined me for a fun, wide-ranging conversation about cancel culture, the limits of free speech, and social psychology. Do some people deserve to be canceled? Should children be banned from using social media? When do political protestors cross the line? What rhetorical devices do the left and right use to derail honest debates? And how can we all use the checklist of cognitive distortions to save our own sanity? All of this and much more with one of the most articulate thinkers of our time.

Greg Lukianoff is an attorney, New York Times best-selling author, and the President and CEO of the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE). He is the co-author with Jonathan Haidt of "The Coddling of the American Mind" and the co-author with Rikki Schlott of "The Canceling of the American Mind." FEMA Opens Disaster Recover Center in TX02

The Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) opened a Disaster Recover Center in TX02 on Friday, May 31. FEMA will be able to provide one-on-one help to Texans affected by the severe storms, tornadoes, flooding and high winds that began April 26.

If you experienced storm related damage and seek assistance from FEMA, you may visit the Disaster Recovery Center between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. any day at the Vera B. May Community Center, 2100 Wolf Road, Huffman, TX 77336.

You don’t have to go to a Disaster Recovery Center for assistance. You may apply online or by phone at disasterassistance.gov/ or call the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362 between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. Help is available in most languages. If you use a relay service, such as video relay (VRS), captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA your number for that service.
